Hi,
I know this question might sound strange but it's just eating me up and I want to make sure once and for all.
I did both my BA and MA in TESOL and applied for a second MA in Educational Technology for Fall 2013 and got accepted.
At the time I wasn't confident to apply for the PhD because my MA GPA wasn't very high and I thought I didn't have a strong academic background for a doctorate degree in a different field from my previous studies. But now I believe I may have made a mistake and I should have taken the risk and gone for the higher level.
I have encountered a few problems. The most important one is that I did not receive any funding from the university and according to the current MA students my chances for TA/RA positions are very slim next to PhD students. Another one is that from what I understand as an international student getting a student visa is very difficult when you are going for a second master’s degree, I’ve heard many have been rejected because of purpose of visit. I have applied 52 days ago and haven't heard from the embassy yet.
So do you think is it possible for me to apply for a PhD degree at this point and change my second master’s admission to a doctorate? I know it might be too late but if I wanted to ask my temporary supervisor about this how would I ask them? Should I state the above reasons in my request?
Thank you very much in advance for your time and guidance J
