Does anyone know how competitive the Japan program is? I guess there are a lot of slots, but it seems like a lot of people would want to go to japan.

I think I'm going to go to the smithsonian monday. I'm interested in the american history museum. My flight gets in at about 4, but the smithsonian has extended hours till 7:30. If anyone is interested in joining me, let me know.

Just got an email for official acceptance for China!

I am basically going to tell my internship the truth (i.e. if I got official acceptance for the EAPSI there's no way I would turn it down). They can wait for two weeks if they really like me, or they can look for other candidates. I had already asked for a 10 day extension on their original deadline, so I feel kind of guilty stringing them along any longer knowing that I will turn them down if I get the EAPSI. But from what it seems like, once you get tentatively accepted, it is extremely likely that you will get officially excepted. It is nice to have the internship as a backup though...

SATO was a little flexible in that they gave me a choice of times for flights. My flight was more than 700$ (flying from phoenix). I contacted Elena and she said it was no problem. So it sounds like we have to wait another few weeks until we get official acceptance? This is driving me a little crazy. I have a nice internship offer as my backup plan, but it looks like I will have to turn down the internship offer before I hear official acceptance from the nsf. Any one know if the sequester will affect this program? Also +1 for meeting up for dinner on the first night of orientation.

I got an offer for China too!

Obviously close to the deadline, but does anyone know what to put for the data management plan? There doesn't seem to be any specific requirements with regards to the EAPSI, so I'm just going off the general NSF guidelines, and whatever I can find on the internet about it.
