  1. How does your close environment respond to the fact that you are going to spend the next few years far from them ( some where over the rainbow ) ?
  2. What do I need to know before buying a car in the states?

    Scared?

K, Now I am getting nervous about the whole idea to begin Graduate school in less than three month, my English is really bad and in few moth I will have to do everything in English, I can't see myself setting in a class and talking notes. I get a great financial aid, what if they will find out that I am not so good as they think, I can not remember anything from my undergrad degree (which I finished a year ago). I have one year to prove myself academically and to get used to they new environment. What is the worst case? that I will be "thrown" away from the department!!!!
  4. I called Brown yesterday, they said that they sent me a letter in Apr. 21, I'm still waiting for Dayton's answer. But even if it will take a lot of time I do not care because I know where I will be next fall.
  5. I decline an offer after that I accepted because I get a better offer that I could not refuse, and I do not think there is anything wrong in doing so. right now there is a happy graduate student somewhere enjoying the late admission offer that he get. They, the universities, know very good that students usually look for the best financial offer that they may get. I can not see anything wrong in declining an offer ( and not rejecting it ) for one semester
  6. There is nothing wrong in declining the offer in one semaster, it will give you a plenty of time to think about what your really prefer.
  7. I feel the same as you. I finished my Undergrad a year ago, in the last year I preferred to work in a science museum than looking for a real job, I just needed to feel that I have a lot of free time to do what ever I feel like. I have been admitted to a great university that I really would like to admit, but I can not stop thinking that I was admitted as a fluke. I really do not know If I want to have the Phd, the only think that I am sure about is that I would like it to be a good experience. I really hope that they will not "kick me out" after a year
  8. I do not need it to take notes during classes, for two main reasons, first of all I type REALLY slowly, and secondly I'm going to Engineering program so there is a lot of formals and sketches that typing them takes a lot of time.
  9. I am. From two universities !!!!

    Scared?

I'm not too worried about the lack of social life, I spent most of my undrgrad with out a lot of it because I had a lot of work. What I am concerned about is the adjustment as International Student.
  11. This subject have nothing to do with being an International student but I think that it's the best place for it. I spent all of my Undergrad with a regular desktop at home, and I did not need a laptop because there was computers in every spot in the campus. How much an laptop will be necessary to me as grad. student, do you think that I will be OK with regular desktop computer?
  12. If I have a I-20 from a University that I was thinking that I'm going to admit but now I want to have a new I-20 from other University that I am going to admit, can I cancel the first one? will I have to go over a hard procedure?
  13. Do you think that If I will get to South Bend only a month before classes start I will have a enough time to find a good apartment?
  14. How long it takes to international student to get used to learn in English? How can I practice my English meanwhile? I'm going to Engineering Department that is why I'm not worrying to much about doing everything in English because I know that I only need to practice the Technical English that I will use in my area of research, therefore in the next two month I'm going to go over several books in English that are close to my area of research in graduate school? Do you have any other ideas how can I practice my English?
  15. I feel your pain. I am still waiting for two more answers
  16. Thank you for your help. My main problem is that I do not know the rental ranges, if I will say 450-650$ will it sound crazy? It's looks like it will cost me more to live in the university's housing that rent a apartment with someone, could it be?
  17. I do not know, I am international student so I do not know too much about Chicago, I'm trying to save as much as I can, what do you sugest? all I know is that I do not want to live in a bad area. I do not care to live a little bit far from the campus and use the public transportation. :?
  18. If I have been admitted to IIT then in which areas in Chicago I should look for apartment?
  19. It's looks like I'm going to attend IIT in Chicago, Now I have to apply for my visa and start looking for apartment and roommate, any suggestion where to start from?
