Supposedly, Columbia is to be finished by the end of business Friday. I am starting to doubt that....in which case, no word from them through next week (spring break). :x

Such a glass-half-empty outlook. The fact that no discernable wait lists have been distributed yet is comforting. But the sheer number of people who haven't heard bodes ill. More "beheadings" will occur this week.

Still all quiet today from those who haven't heard yet from Columbia? Wait-lists went out one year ago tomorrow...

Columbia expects to finish notifying applicants this week. No indication of whether they are through with rejections...

Congratulations. Your season is almost done. You'll be ABD by the time UNC notifies...

Nothing from Columbia today...all quiet...one would think they would have continued the onslaught (rejections) today. This is very suspenseful.

Here is what I would like to know. When an admittee turns down an offer, that does not necessitate an offer of admittance to a wait-listee, does it? My sense is that a school has a "target number" for an incoming cohort, and since they admit more than they want to begin with, a number of people must turn down offers before they go to the wait list. I hope I am wrong.

Depends on your sub-field. If you are in theory, they are very good at placing students -- Kathy Zuckert especially. If in IR, I would avoid their program.

No problem. Of course, we must survive today first -- waiting for the guillotine to drop any moment now.

I'll take it upon myself, then! Tomorrow afternoon or Tuesday it is. One more unto the breach tomorrow morning, best of men! Thoughts are but dreams till their effects be tried.

According to last year's results, some wait-listers didn't find out until the third week of March. And it seems in previous years the "executions" (rejections) have occured in one fell swoop. So there's that. I'm becoming more disinclined though to think this means the wait list is comprised of those not cut today. Too many people on here still have no answer.

I haven't gotten an email yet either...holding my breath. They could be doing these in waves. If we're in the clear Monday afternoon, we may be in good shape.

I am not going to bother. I am not sure how to phrase such a proposition unprompted. Lex? Your best bet, though, is to ask the DGS. Regular faculty, even on the admissions committee, often have little say in these things.
