Report: Commotion inside the Yale Poli Sci Dept. late into this afternoon.
-
Anyone apply to UVA? One would think decisions would begin to trickle out this week.

ASU cut 200 staff and faculty are next on the chop block. Be chary of accepting offers from any UC school. Furloughs and possibly layoffs are being looked at there as well. -

seriously, when can i expect to hear decisions?

My sense is that December deadline files are being sifted through now. The non-reviewable applications are being thrown out -- those lacking, for instance, a letter of recommendation or two or a transcript. -
I assume you are referring to Georgetown in the original post. I got the same email and both of my transcripts appear as "missing". I think the graduate school is just now doing their initial run through the applications.

How is the SOP a struggle. What plagues you, best of men?

I adopted a scene from the great film "The Godfather" to persuade Ad. Coms. of my worth:
-
Yes, so work hard on the rest of your application. At the top schools, ad. coms. get desperate during the endgame and look for any excuse to cut people. This is bloodsport. You must become Thrasymachus.
-
You don't need to be buddy-buddy with professors. For the ones whose classes you did well in, send them a paper you did with a C.V. and sample statement of purpose. They should be glad to write you a letter. Once you get in, proffer them a bag of Doritos

Cornell, it appears that you feel incestousness is OK depending on the situation. Is this a correct characterization?
-
Though you and her may have formed a torrid incestuous bond, it is best for you to cut ties now, from a professional standpoint. Broaching this in a meeting is a tar baby.

These are smart people looking for smart analysis.

Contacting professors, when to pull the trigger

Now let me throw this in: who thinks contacting professors is wise? -
When in the coming months is a good time to touch base with graduate professors? We want it to be early enough that we don't look desperate, but late enough that they will remember us come application time. 8)

American Politics vs. The Rest - How is the Job Market?
AllFiredUp replied to Quarex's topic in Political Science Forum
Who thinks there is a practical aspect to this. Seems the job market in the natural sciences is good, as are positions in math/economics. In social sciences, it seems political science jobs in American Politics and Const. Law/courts (everyone needs a pre-law advisor) top non-empirical approaches (theory, some comparative politics) by a sizable margin. Then you have fields like philosophy and English which are perhaps even worse in terms of available TT positions. -
lenin, that's crap. You'd live better with Pablo.
-
Anyone know what Brown proffered.
