Ok well for the programs I am looking at, most of the Ivy Leagues are ranked amongst the top- Harvard, Yale, UPenn, Columbia, Cornell...so I suppose you can throw in a few of the other non-ivy schools interspersed with these for the sake of argument. I'm still just trying to find out if anyone has any helpful information as to whether these programs are out of reach with a low undregrad GPA.

Has anyone heard of any sub 3.0 undergrad GPAs making it into any top Ivy League programs? I have a sub 3.0 undergrad GPA, a high MS GPA in physiology and a high GRE score. I also will have a first author publication. Has my undergrad GPA basically ruined any chances at an Ivy League school? I'm just not sure what my "reach" schools should be when applying Ph.D, oh and I'm interested in medical research oriented programs like physiology, cell bio, etc.

Sorry for the lack of detail. I'm currently finishing my MS in physiology, so I'd like to get a Ph.D in something related to medical research. I'm not quite sure of the ranking of my current school, it's by no means a top tier school though. I will, however, be working in a lab at a top tier university for a year while I plan my next step. Would considering a top program be at all reasonable or is it a pretty big long shot? Like I said, I know that I'm already able to get into the Ph. D program at my current school, but I was just wondering if the Ivy League programs are a possibility for me with a high GPA from my MS program and a high GRE score.

Hey everyone I was just wondering if anyone has heard of applicants to some of the top, ivy league phd programs having any success despite a low GPA (<3.0). I was wondering if there is any chance of a strong performance in a MS program (plus 1 first author paper) paired with high GRE scores might renew one's chance. Any input is appreciated, and no, I'm not strictly asking about ivy programs just because of the allure of the big name. I'm just curious if I'd have a shot at any of them because I already know that I can gain admission into the program I'm currently getting my MS and I'm wondering as to whether I may have even more options. Thanks
