  1. I'm attending SFS this year and they told me that courses from Straighterline were acceptable. I took macro and stat with them - it's go at your own pace and super cheap compared to others. You will definitely need to get your hands on the textbook, or download it,though. And you probably want to check with admissions at all the schools you are applying to (or alternatively most of them may have that info on their website).
  2. I was wondering if anyone here had had luck asking for additional funding from SAIS, and specifically from IDEV? I was given about half tuition from both Fletcher and SFS, but nothing from SAIS IDEV. I emailed the financial aid office and they said that only 30% of admitted IDEV students are given funding and there is no second round. Does anyone have a success story or think it would still be a good idea at this point to contact the IDEV director?
  3. Has anyone officially decided on GHD for this year? I'm strongly leaning in that direction - after talking to the director, academic coordinator and current students I've really been wowed by the amount of attention and opportunities the students are given. Would love to have more of a discussion about it with anyone here! Did anyone attend the Admitted Students' Day this week?
  4. I have been accepted as well, for IDEV. I had the same paragraph in my admission letter about financial aid. If anyone hears about merit funding, post here!!
  5. FYI decisions are out on the online portal!! I was accepted! It says we will "receive an email in the coming days regarding fellowships."
  6. Great! I'm abroad so it's nighttime where I am right now...guess this means it's going to be a late night
  7. If anyone didn't see this yet: http://networkedblogs.com/IXKzL "Day of Reckoning?" - seems a bit harsh! Like people aren't already stressed enough about this!
  8. I was accepted to GHD and have two years experience living and working in developing countries and then an additional year working in a developed country.I think what helped me is that my work experience (at least in this year) is clearly related to what type of development work I want to go in to.
  9. I am waiting to hear from every school (and funding offers) before making a decision. I really like both Fletcher and Georgetown at this point but am waiting to hear about Fletcher scholarships - even though I was admitted early decision I have to wait to receive funding info with all of the admitted students. Hopefully we'll all know everything by March 15!
  10. GHD is definitely a part of SFS - I think the Graduate School just handles all official acceptance letters and official business. Indhika and I talked alot about the benefits of studying within SFS when I had my interview. With regards to financing, I think they've given out the initial merit scholarships to 30-40% of admitted students (that's what the website says) and of course they will probably be re-distributing them to others as people decline admission. It seems, though, that Georgetown also sometimes offers its graduate students fellowships and assistantships. But I don't think anyone accepted to GHD was offered either of those? Those are a different type of funding.
  11. Rejected from Goldman, and also just accepted to Duke Sanford MPP with funding! Is anyone here planning to go to the Open House? I'd love to hear impressions from those who went - sounds like it will be a fun event, sorry I'll miss it!
  12. I think that sounds like a pretty good indication you'll be accepted, ASEANdumpling I was accepted early decision, and from my experience Fletcher really makes it a priority to court the students they want to attend. I honestly don't know why they would have sent that to you if they weren't planning to accept you and wanted you to think about them while you're likely receiving acceptances from other programs.
  13. Just got an email and was able to view my official acceptance letter for GHD online. They attached the financial award letter. I received a merit scholarship, but it also seems like the graduate school does offer assistantships and fellowships - curious if anyone was awarded one of those, or if anyone knows if GHD actually gives out either of these types of awards? And Ariana, I'd love to hear your thoughts from Admitted Student Day as well - it's also too far for me to attend. It sounds like a great program, but it would be nice to hear from someone who was able to visit and interact with students, faculty, and staff.
  14. Did anyone else freak out just a little bit when they saw the "Graduate Admissions Updates" email from WWS? I knew it was way too early for decisions, but still! I did really like the humor of the message, as well as officially hearing that we'll know by March 15!
