I agree, first go for the SMP. In my state, UMDNJ offers a Biomedical Sciences SMP which also shares lots of classes with actual medical students. This often paves the way for DO school. I don't think you'll get into an MD school, but a DO school should be your aim. You just need to get that master's first.

No it wasn't, now I applied to Hunter for Social Work as well- these are the SW programs I've applied to: Hunter, Rutgers, and Temple. Do I have a chance of getting into any of those? My worry is I only have 1 internship working in the social services for at-risk teens in an urban environment. I also did research on prejudice and development.

Can anyone offer some insight, or is my application so bad that I shouldn't even have considered applying?

It's never too early, go ahead and establish contact. The longer you have contact, the better when it comes to applying and getting LOR's.

I would still apply to their campus program as well. In the mean time, see if there are any distance programs in the vicinity that you can apply to. I have a friend who was waitlisted for a counseling program at TCNJ and finally made it in, but its nervewracking.

Hey guys, I have undiagnosed ADHD and had my GRE in September. I don't have the money to take it again for now (but will possibly retake in January). Counseling masters programs don't often look at the math section, so here are my scores. I want to know if they are good enough to get into a program: Q: 144 (20%) V: 159 (80%) AW: 5.0 (92%) As you can see, I excelled in analytical writing and did fairly well in verbal, however, I did way below average in quantitative. I want to know if this will affect my application. I have a combined GPA of 3.4 (3.78 at community college, 3.10 at The College of New Jersey). I also have 1 internship and a year's worth of research lab volunteering experience. Should I retake the GRE? I'm confident I'll score at or above for verbal and analytical, but quantitative- what should I aim for? I'm applying to 10 counseling programs and 2 social work programs.

I am worried about my stats. I have applied to a plethora of schools with a large range. Counseling Programs: 1. CUNY- City College of New York 2. CUNY- Brooklyn College 3. CUNY- Hunter College 4. Villanova University 5. UPenn GSE 6. William Paterson University 7. The College of New Jersey 8. Seton Hall University 9. Fairleigh Dickinson University 10. Centenary College Social Work Programs: 1. Temple School of Social Work 2. Rutgers University My stats are as follows: GRE: 159V, 144Q, 5.0W/A GPA's: Community College- 3.787 The College of New Jersey- 3.104 Psychology GPA- 3.113 Research: 1 year Volunteering: Research Lab, College Editorial Internship: Counseling Center for At-Risk Youth (1 semester) The reason for the low GPA at the 4-year school was due to battling depression, I wrote this and how I overcame it in my letter, as suggested by the admissions counselors. I also wrote a bit about the personal and family circumstances that led me to pursue a degree in psychology and a career in counseling. I had to retake five courses to get my GPA up due to the depression and have documentation (though I never took medical leave). I'm really worried I won't get into any of these schools. What do you think? (Before you say "OMG another what are my chances post", I know... its just that I really want to know, I haven't gotten a straight answer on this).
