I phoned SSHRC this morning to ask about letters for PhD applicants from the U.S.. They said they would go out at the end of this week or early next week. I feel like I've heard that somewhere before...

if someone with access could please leak the list, I would be most grateful. I'm in the U.S. so have to wait for both Canada Post and U.S. post, and will be traveling for most of the summer with my mail on hold beginning next Friday. Like everyone else, I am mystified by why they would make this so difficult, and exactly whose privacy they are protecting by hiding these names, when they will be made public on the SSHRC web site in the future, as well as on most winners' c.v.s, etc.. please, one of you people with friends in the offices, please leak the list for us all.

Before I found this forum, I had accepted that with 950 people awarded grants already, compared to 905 last year, my odds of HM were about 99%. I stopped thinking about it, starting getting on with my life, and only checked the NSF page once per week. Now, thanks to you, I have spent hours reading about the ARRA, browsing forums and blogs, I refresh web sites that don't change over and over again, and I've started to think I may get a grant after all. My productivity is ruined.

It's nice to know these senseless delays are not exclusive to Canadian bureaucracies. The "Waiting to hear from NSF" forum (http://forum.thegradcafe.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=14349&start=2505) is up to 169 pages now. They announced some of the winners, some of the losers, and left about 2000 people in a "you might get an honorable mention or you might still be a winner" category. It's been weeks, and no indication of when they will notify people...

Glad I found this forum. Also anxiously waiting and wondering what exactly "mid-April" means. Why on earth don't these people use email for notification??
