Judging by the schools you applied to...I surmise that you're ready to get the hell out of Texas.

I know several of you have done it, but regarding inquiring about your application: 1) Have you found them to be forthcoming with information or is it usually just "you will hear soon"? 2) Do you think inquiring has any effect whatsoever on the outcome? I doubt it does, but I don't want to annoy them into rushing to reject me. Thanks guys. I'm a BME/bioengineering student, so I still haven't heard a peep from most of my schools and Boston University is the only one that has sent out much in the way of acceptances, and it ain't looking good for me...

I see you have an interview offer from UW. What was your email like? It seems like their notifications come trickling out, so it's a bit more frustrating than places like Berkeley where all interview offers went out at the same time...

UW-Seattle Bioengineering interview sent out. Can anyone confirm or deny whether this is it? EDIT: In my anxiety I forgot that interviews and rejections for Americans have been trickling out. Ha.

Harvard BioE acceptance went out....I hate it when people don't post their stats. Arrrrrgh.

I am refreshing email, the results page, and this thread way too much looking for news on Berkeley/UCSF.

So does anyone know how much Berkeley actually cares about your "story?" I know the personal statement is there for all grad applicants, but I can imagine that some science-focused departments would ignore it. I'm one of those people that have a good story even though I'm a white male of protestant heritage.

I'd primarily phrase it in terms of the money you'd be saving them; if anything, it will look good that you're taking their cost into consideration. Then mention the time issue. It seems like a slam dunk, honestly.

I checked out CU Boulder a couple years ago and found that they didn't guarantee funding for PhD students. Is this not still the case?

If someone has already given their word they would go to one interview weekend, I think it's more rude to cancel on the first offer. He should not be in a position requiring him to limit his options right now, because he doesn't hold any cards. You stick to your commitments.

Nope. Should be this week or next though. Historically they've sent interview invitations around 1/20 (according to Grad Cafe results), but the website just says "late January." It could be as late as next Thursday. >.<
