  1. Hi, I've got a solid A- GPA from my master's program and was told that I should not bother applying to PhD's in comparative literature at top tier schools with anything less than a 3.9. My GRE scores are pretty high but I am still not sure if this counter balances my GPA. Thoughts?!
  2. Has anyone who has applied to complit at columbia for a PhD track heard back??? I can't tell from the results search if just the english department has made decisions or complit as well...
  3. It is indeed Chicago. I only applied to 4 other schools and have yet to hear back from any of them...I've noticed on the results search that only one of my schools (nyu) has accepted students, while the other schools have been steadily rejecting. I'm fairly convinced that if chicago rejected me the others will too. The only thing that is making me think that the MAPH might not be such a bad idea (even though the price tag is ridiculous) is that I'm a senior, have not been published, I don't really have any exemplary work experience, and I bombed my GRE's. In short, my only pros are that I am multilingual (which is a given for complit anyway). I'd only really go if it meant I would have better chances reapplying to chicago next year, but even that is apparently not a given.
  4. As a newbie applying to grad schools I'm not really sure what this means...I was rejected from the phd program of complit that i had applied for but they accepted me into an MAPH program with no funding. From what i can gather, the program seems like some kind of a limbo for people who they don't think are ready for grad school but have strong applications. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this just the university trying to ease the blow of rejection? if anyone knows of this program i'd love to hear if it is considered a waste of time/money or actually beneficial...
  5. I am the same way. I thought the race to get the applications in on time would be the hardest part but i stand corrected. waiting is a far more torturous fate and has only been made slightly more agreeable by the consumption of multiple bottles of wine.
  6. Hi all, like many people on this site i have been checking the results search an unhealthy amount of times a day. I think it is slowly eating away at my brain so much so that by the time i get to graduate school i am confident that i will be a vegetable. I've noticed that only one of my schools seems to have been accepting people, but it seems pretty late in the game to have not heard anything. On the other hand I have heard that comp lit departments take longer than most to look through apps. I also don't live in the us, and the small part of me that is still hoping is convinced that international apps take longer. Bref, if any of you who are more experienced in torture of this kind can shed some light on the prolonged silence of my schools I would be eternally grateful.
