  1. Congrats! Great news. I'm not an 18th c. British applicant, but a 16th-17th. Still waiting to hear.
  2. Really? Sweet. It'll be nice to have those before making final decisions.
  3. Congrats! That's excellent that they were so upfront with you about your position on their wait list.
  4. Thanks for the update sebastian! I really hope that, if I am to be rejected outright, they just let me know today. If they don't and I wait out the weekend only to be rejected next week, I may actually literally cry.
  5. Yup. At this point, I keep thinking: why did I ever agree to set myself up for that kind of rejection?
  6. From what I know, it really depends on the program. Some of the more well-funded ones (like Yale and Columbia for instance) don't require teaching until the second year, but some of the state schools (even higher-tier ones) require their funded students to teach immediately. It might also depend on if the student has a Master's degree or not or teaching experience of some kind. I have no idea how it works on the Comp Lit side of things, however.
  7. Good luck, waparys! Hopefully we won't have to wait much longer. You're welcome to join our open pre-Valentine's love-letter to Maryland as well. You too skybythelight! Good luck to everyone here! Cheers!
  8. That would be great! I like friends. Good luck to you as well!
  9. Sure. They should have enough to go around. I have high hopes as well. I'm really hoping that fit is what it comes down to. There are three great profs I could work with there, it's close to the Folger, and two of my rec-letter writers are UMD alums too. I'm hoping they somehow remember that they accepted me to their MFA program when I applied to that a few years ago (though I went elsewhere and my concentration changed), and that magically makes them think I'm good enough.
  10. Congrats on the waitlist Datatape! Also, I really, really, really want some news soon. Any news, really.
  11. Come on, Maryland: you know it; I know it. We're perfect for each other. Let's not wait for tomorrow, or the day after, or the day after that. After all "love's not time's fool." Thinking of you, xoxo HHEoS
  12. Hey, The Whistler, I know NYU and Chicago are two programs that specifically go about offering (often unfunded) spots in their MA programs to PhD applicants as alternatives to being rejected outright. It might take them some time to make these decisions because they have to evaluate applicants' potential for MA success after having already made PhD decisions. This is just a suggestion as to why they may take longer than most to send rejections.
  13. Probably both Kathleen Griffin (at the general grad english address) and Chadwick Allen, the DGS (at his personal address).
  14. I'm gonna wait until 4pm EST and then figure out if I'm calm enough to. I don't want my frustration and impatience to be too explicit. ETA: I might send an email? I'm better at those.
  15. Well, rain is certainly no excuse. I want this decision today. I'm tired of the waiting. It's been two weeks. Make up your minds and reject me already.
