  1. Hey everyone, I was in a similar position when I got a paper accepted for publication after I'd graduated from my MA program. I used my MA affiliation (didn't have a future institution at that time) and sent a note to my former DGS giving him a heads-up about it. He was happy for me, cool with it, and even posted it on that institution's website. So what I'm saying is, if you're going to somewhere new, I think you should tell them you're headed to a conference and ask politely if they don't mind you using their name and your future affiliation. They probably would be happy to have the publicity for their program's name. In crazyhappy's case, I'd say go ahead with using your MA affiliation, but be sure to notify them if you are accepted and will be using that affiliation publicly. Hope that helps! Edit: I'd say, in the second case, you should probably stop using your previous affiliation after about 6 months have elapsed, or when you no longer have access to their resources (library holdings etc.). At that point, it might be wiser to consider yourself an "independent scholar."
  2. Thanks! It does feel that way. 'sup? Just sent you a PM.
  3. Alright, it's as official as it will ever be, now. After being told on Friday night that my chances were slim, and that it would be surprising if they made an offer, today, I GOT INTO OHIO STATE off their wait list!!!! Apparently the Renaissance faculty fought super hard for me today. And, after dealing with some other stuff (see thread entitled "Help!") this afternoon, I made it official-- I'LL ALSO BE ATTENDING OHIO STATE IN THE FALL! I'M SO EXCITED! Thanks everyone for being such a great, supportive community! And thank you, sebastiansteddy, for being an especially awesome supporter over the last two months! It's truly terrible what happened in Boston today, but I'm happy to hear that your family is okay. I can't wait to meet everyone on here headed to OSU in the fall.
  4. Thanks, Sursie, that does make me feel better! The DGS still hasn't gotten back to me, even after I sent another, follow-up email. But whatevs, I'm now completely over being worried about that. I'm in at a great program and no one can take that from me! Yay!
  5. Thanks guys! I really appreciate it. I'm still a little shaky about this whole situation, but I'm going to send a follow-up email to the DGS at the first program to ensure that she received my email to cover my legal bases. Thanks! I haven't posted officially in the other thread yet, but I will as soon as I'm comfortable that everything's okay with my retracted acceptance.
  6. Thanks everyone! The other offer (from my top-choice) came. I retracted the initial decision within an hour of making it, however I haven't gotten a response from that DGS yet. She might be pissed, but this is my future, and as some of you rightly said, I had to do what's best for me. I did speak to my advisors about it and they encouraged me to make the decision I wanted to. I just posted on here in a panicked frenzy when they didn't pick up their phones. The CGS statement covers my decision, and I was polite and apologetic. I'm confident that I made the best decision for me.
  7. Help, everyone! I decided to accept an offer because my first choice didn't get back to me when they said they would. Now my first choice said an offer is coming. How bad is it to retract my acceptance? I accepted literally half an hour ago.
  8. Shenanigans. You should email US News and World Report asking for more info on the program since they seem to be more aware of its existence than Bryn Mawr itself.
  9. Well, first, you might want to double-check that you are allowed to wait until April 15 here, if you haven't already. The national deadline only applies to schools that have agreed to this resolution. I'm 100% ready and willing to wait until April 15 to see what happens with the one program at which I'm waitlisted. However, if you can't wait that long, you might want to wait until the programs where you are waitlisted have held campus visits. Accepted students usually have a definite feeling about their potential decision after visiting all of the programs at which they were accepted and will probably begin to finalize those decisions then. This year, it looks like most campus visits will be through by the week of April 1, although there are exceptions. Hope this helps.
  10. I suggest contacting Loyola Chicago (probably via email) to find out about your status. Last year, a number of applicants on the GC Results board and Forum complained of having never gotten a response from them (even after April 15).
  11. This like being a kid waking up on Christmas morning and realizing you got the exact same gifts as last year, just in different wrapping paper. Worst. Christmas. Ever.
  12. Hey Radioactive, I was accepted to the PhD program there about two weeks ago. I haven't seen any one else on here mention anything about hearing from them, though.
