  1. I just found two more programs that would be perfect for you: Iowa State University - Integrated Visual Arts (http://www.design.iastate.edu/integratedstudioarts/graduateprogram.php); Montclair State University - Studio Art (http://www.montclair.edu/arts/art-and-design/academic-programs/graduate-programs/art-studio-mfa/) Both would allow you to mix traditional art with new media/technology.
  2. I realize this is an old thread, but I just wanted to suggest the Studio Art and the Computer track within the MFA in Emerging Media program at UCF (http://www.graduatecatalog.ucf.edu/programs/program.aspx?id=1464&tid=3846&track=Studio%20Art%20and%20the%20Computer#program_desc) for other people with similar interests.
  3. If school 2 is Teachers' College-Columbia University, go to school 1. Trust me. My sister attended there as a non-matriculated student in the SLP program and it was a horrible experience.
  4. -1, I see, I see. I have to work a little bit harder. Here you go: Boston University (http://www.bu.edu/polisci/academics/graduate/phd/) SUNY Albany (http://www.albany.edu/rockefeller/faculty_pos_schoolman.shtml) University of Pittsburgh (http://www.polisci.pitt.edu/person/frederick-g-whelan) Washington University in St. Louis (https://polisci.wustl.edu/graduate-program) UConn (http://www.polisci.uconn.edu/graduate/degree.php) Georgetown (http://government.georgetown.edu/programs/graduate/phdprograms/) University of Virginia (http://politics.virginia.edu/politicaltheory) Source: https://www.google.com/search?q=%22history+of+political+thought%22+PhD+program+site%3A.edu&oq=%22history+of+political+thought%22+PhD+program+site%3A.edu&aqs=chrome.0.57j62l2.21168j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#q=%22history+of+political+thought%22+%22political+theory%22+enlightenment+site:.edu&newwindow=1&psj=1&ei=C9CuUZWfNOmt0AGH8IGwBQ&start=140&sa=N&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.47380653,d.dmQ&fp=2c31f7ef6e2dce8f&biw=1396&bih=8955 You're welcome.
  5. Enjoy! https://www.google.com/search?q=%22history+of+political+thought%22+enlightenment+theory+%22PhD+program%22+site%3A.edu+-academia&aq=f&oq=%22history+of+political+thought%22+enlightenment+theory+%22PhD+program%22+site%3A.edu+-academia&aqs=chrome.0.57&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8&hl=en-US&espv=1 EDIT: Here's a better link: https://www.google.com/search?q=%22history+of+political+thought%22+enlightenment+philosophy+%22Ph.D.+program%22+OR+%22PhD+program%22+%22political+science%22+site%3A.edu+-academia&oq=%22history+of+political+thought%22+enlightenment+philosophy+%22Ph.D.+program%22+OR+%22PhD+program%22+%22political+science%22+site%3A.edu+-academia&aqs=chrome.0.57.46569048j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 The key is to use: site:.edu in your search to restrict the results to university websites.
  6. That's a pretty good list. I have similar interests. Safety Schools: 1. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute - Communication and Rhetoric (http://www.cm.rpi.edu/pl/phd-communication-rhetoric-647) 2. University of Colorado-Boulder - Technology, Media, and Society (http://www.colorado.edu/atlas/newatlas/phd/)
  7. Check out the Media Anthropology program at Harvard: http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~anthro/grad_media.htm Also, check out the iMAP program at USC, which is half theory and half practice: http://cinema.usc.edu/imap/ For the theoretical side, you could take critical studies courses as part of that program, which cover pop culture. And whatever practice-based courses your heart desires for the practical side. And I can't leave out the Digital Media program at Georgia Tech: http://dm.lmc.gatech.edu/program/phd-program/ This program may or may not be a fit for you, but there is a course on visual culture and it's also a mixture of theory and practice, so that's why I mention it. Good luck in your search for the right program. By the way, I will be applying to the Electronic Arts program at RPI and the iMAP program at USC because they are both theory/practice based and have faculty that match my main research interest, which is virtual reality.
  8. I am not in the Media Management program, but rather the Media Studies program at The New School and my suggestion is that you go with Drexel. The reason being the courses in the Media Management program as far I know do not cover television management specifically. The focus is more on social media and film. In the Media Studies program, there is only one television course. So the School of Media Studies at The New School is not the place to attend for television studies. (But there is always internships that make up for that.) Actually, I have recently become interested in media management and I am looking into Drexel myself as a second Masters degree. It looks like an excellent program. My goal is to have a manager/executive role at a television network.
  9. I have been a long-time lurker on this forum. This is my first post. I was recently accepted into the MA in Media Studies at The New School, which I'm excited about. While taking a media design/production overview class as a non-degree student in the program this semester, I realized I really like audio editing/production, and I rekindled my love for video editing. Now, I plan on taking an audio class next semester and a video editing class a semester after that, but there are not that many video editing classes. I am also interested in music production (it's my strongest suit I would say), and I had sort of an epiphany the other day day that rather than focus on one thing, I should satisfy all my interests. My goal is to teach at a university eventually. With the MA I could teach part-time, but I'm interested in teaching full-time. If I am going to teach anything, it would have to be music production or video editing or both because I really can't see myself teaching anything else. So I'm thinking about obtaining an MFA in either Media Arts or Recording Arts after the MA. I was looked into the MFA in Media Arts program at Long Island University-Brooklyn, but it's light on music production courses. So I looked around and some more and found the Recording Arts program at Middle Tennessee State University. I am really considering this program. I'm starting to develop a portfolio this semester and I could use the MA to develop my portfolio further. (They accept creative works other than recordings and compositions, such as video, film, multimedia, etc.) The problem is of course taking on so much more debt. I have been avoiding an MFA all together because I don't want to take on so much debt. But if I can get an MA first and obtain a TA position, then that would make me competitive for the TA position for the MFA. I am crazy in doing this? Thoughts?
