  1. Just a quick FYI for those waiting for Lakehead. I got an email late Tues to say I've been offered admission. Deadline to accept is 3rd week of June.
  2. Oh, did you finally hear back from UVic, then? I'm sorry you got bad news. Good luck with the U of S program.
  3. In my limited knowledge on the topic, I believe it means you are most likely in. From what I understand, the department first recommends its selected students to the graduate program of the university, who then looks over your student records to ensure you meet their criteria, and unless there something unusual missing, you are in.
  4. Oh man, they're taking a long time. Waiting is so nerve wracking! Fingers crossed for you.
  5. Great ideas. I am terrible for this. Thanks!
  6. Still nothing from Lakehead. I contacted them about a week ago saying I had to respond to another offer by last Fri and they didn't give me any info apart from the fact they have no deadline to respond to applicants and they will send an email to personal and Lakehead email addresses when they do.
  7. Interesting, wtncffts! Yes, I personally found it useful to have the years in between. I had thought about going to grad school when I was about 24, but if I had, it would have been in a totally different field.
  8. Cima - my deadline to accept with UVic was yesterday, so hopefully that means some spots will open up next week for those still waiting. . .
  9. Wow, I'm definitely in the minority here. I finished UG at 22, worked, then was a stay at home mom for several years and am just now going back in my mid/late thirties to start this fall.
  10. For me it was the standard 4 years - taking 5 classes per semester and getting the summers off. Looking back, I would have benefited from not being in such a hurry to finish!
  11. I applied to 4, and have 1 conditional admit, 2 rejections and still waiting on one! They were all online for a Master of Public Health in Canada.
  12. I'm so sorry to hear that. I agree it's better than a rejection, but disappointing just the same.
  13. Thank you! I did get accepted to Uvic but I like Lakehead for their elective courses. There are pros and cons with each, but would love to know, and they are taking their time.
  14. No, didn't apply at U of S, so just waiting for Lakehead now. . .
  15. Just checked and it says: Admission Decision: Quota filled Your application for admission has been carefully considered. We regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission.
  16. Fyi - got a rejection email from U of Alberta (Heath Promotion stream) this afternoon.
  17. I emailed Lakehead, and they said there is no specific date they will notify everyone by, but the first round of admission offers have been made. They will notify applicants via their personal and Lakehead email addresses. Good luck to those still waiting!
  18. Re U of A and the spaces already taken and confirmed, that doesn't bode well for those of us who haven't heard anything - I guess it means we have been rejected, and they just haven't sent out the letters yet?
  19. I like the U of A program concentration and choice of electives and I like Lakehead for not needing to go to campus. Lol. With kids it's an extra challenge to be gone, plus there is the airfare! So *if* I get into both, will be torn as Uvic sounds good too. nope, nothing. Bear tracks says 'decision pending' or something like that. Doug from the department, same as Bee87.
  20. Hi Bee87, I may be attending UVic depending on whether I am accepted into UofA or Lakehead. I hope to hear from them before the UVic deadline of Apr 19th. If I decide on UVic, I will be doing the part time program and plan to start with one course per semester and see how that goes. I don't work, but do have two young school aged kids and a household to run, plus I do various volunteer activities at their school and elsewhere. I didn't get an answer from UVic, but I had asked the other schools what the workload would be, and was told average time spent would be between 12 and 20 hours per week per course, obviously depending on a number of factors.
  21. Hi everyone, I've been lurking for a while on this thread and thought I'd pipe in. I was rejected from Waterloo late last week via email (and my status was also updated on Quest), and just got the admission email this afternoon from UVic! My status on their website still says 'file forwarded to department', as it has since probably mid last week, and my deadline to accept is Apr 19th. I'm still waiting to hear back from UofA (health promotion online program) and Lakehead. Does anyone have friends or connections already in the UVic MPH program that I could possibly email and ask a few questions? I applied to the Social Policy stream with Indigenous Health as my second choice. I'm wondering how difficult it would be to change concentrations after starting. . . as I'm tempted to go with Indigenous Health now. . .
  22. Hi there - first time poster here. I'm wondering if either of you ended up with an offer from Lakehead? I assume as a lesser known school (than say U of T, McGill etc), it would be less competitive? I am wondering how far above the 75% stated minimum one needs to have a shot. Have you spoken to current Lakehead MPH students or recent grads? I wonder how good the program is from a student perspective. Thanks.
