  1. Haha! No, you are not alone in your struggle to decide! For me, I'm having a hard choosing because I'm hoping to do the MSW/MPH program and I'm still waiting to hear from BU's school of public health. I managed to miss the deadline for UCLA's MPH program this time around so I would have to apply in the Fall. Once I have that figured out I think it will be easier to make a decision but its getting closer and closer to the 4/15 deadline! Are you leaning one way over the other at all?
  2. Hi insearchofmsw, I was accepted and still haven't received this letter either. I called Lance Fooks on Tuesday, I think, to ask about this and he said that it's just taking a lot of time to get the letters out. Something about processing our transcripts. But he basically told me not to worry and that I have indeed been accepted. Hopefully that helps ease your worries! But if it would give you peace of mind, you can always call just to be sure.
  3. I'm in the same boat... such a tough decision! In the next few weeks I'm going to be visiting BU and then UCLA for the welcome day and will hopefully have some clarity by the 4/15 deadline!!
  4. I actually didn't ever receive that email that everyone had mentioned but that may be because I originally applied for the MSW/MPH program. Either way happy to know that we will know one way or another come next week!!
  5. I got in! I spoke to the associate dean yesterday. He didn't have any info on scholarships or any word on my application for the School of Public Health (applied for MSW/MPH concurrent program) but I should get a packet in the mail this week. Woohoo!
  6. I got in as well! Woohoo! I submitted my application right at the deadline for scholarships and early decisions (Jan. 15) and my online application was considered complete on 2/2.
  7. I think a good starting point would be to reach out to some programs that offer those degrees and see if you can speak to someone there to ask about each degree path. I'm going through the application process myself for the MSW (i've been out of college for 2 yrs) and I'm not very familiar with the mental health counseling degree but I've found that reaching out to schools to discuss their programs has been really helpful. For recommendations- many programs state somewhere on their website that if you've been out of school for a long time that having only professional reccs is perfectly fine.
  8. Crazy timing since I must have posted my reply on this thread five minutes prior BUT I just received a voicemail from the associate dean of BU's SSW!!! He said he had very good news and I should call him on Monday!!! I can't believe I missed the call but so excited and I'm hoping that on Monday he's not like, "great news!...we received your application materials!" haha! I hope you guys hear back soon too! So surprised and unexpected on a Saturday though I wonder if due to the storm the admissions staff must have brought some work home with them?? I'm thinking the same- even if an assistantship would probably make school/life balance difficult I think it would be worth it and I'd probably thank myself years after when I'm paying off the rest of the loans. BU is pretty high on my list because they have a really good combined MSW/MPH program.
  9. Great idea to start this thread! I applied to BU for the concurrent MSW/MPH program (clinical track for MSW and health and behavior for MPH) and I'm so nervous and excited to hear back. I finished my app for the priority deadline and received an email saying that I would hear back on or before March 1st...only three weeks away but might as well be a lifetime ha! The only thing I'm a little worried about if I get in is the amount of $$ it will cost. I spoke to someone in the fin aid office a few months back who mentioned graduate assistantships covering a lot of the cost of attendance (I may have heard incorrectly though) but she said that the time commitment makes it very difficult for students to balance their coursework/field placements/life- belvamarie did you get that impression from the info session you attended?
  10. I heard back from Berkeley today and it wasn't terrible news but not the greatest of news either. I applied for the MSW/MPH concurrent degree program and was informed by email today that I wasn't accepted into the concurrent program. However since I noted on my application that I would still like to be considered for the MSW program alone if not accepted to the concurrent program, they are forwarding my application to the MSW Admission Committee. This is my first admissions decision from a program that I've applied to and I'm feeling a little worried now. I'm still very much interested in attending as an MSW student at Berkeley and I'm a little nervous that my application might be looked at differently since it was clear I originally intending on pursuing the concurrent program. The email I received said to let them know if I was no longer interested- which is definitely NOT the case! So I'm thinking about calling/emailing admissions to emphasize my continued interest in the program. Since it's Friday and the office is closed, I have the weekend to collect myself and think things over. I was wondering if anyone had any insight or advice???
  11. Hi all! I'm new to this forum- just finished up all of my applications and now I'm trying (and failing!) to relax until acceptance decisions are made. I'm applying to MSW/MPH programs at: UCLA Berkeley Boston University Is anyone else out there a MSW/MPH hopeful?
