He wouldn't tell me the exact position, but said something to the effect of "I can't promise you a ta, but historically some have opened up and you are near the top of the list so there is a good chance" Not all that satisfying, but better than no chance I guess. I'm really hoping because all things equal uwm is my favorite program.

And me too. Enthusiastically accepted, but waitlisted for funding. Somehow worse than being rejected. All of you who decline funding will have to keep us posted while we wait!

I'm just applying to MA's, and it was driving me crazy watching all the phd's get notifications. But last week I was accepted to two programs, still waiting on funding information, and haven't heard from the rest. Has anyone heard from Louisville's MA program?

Good topic. Negotiating funding is a strange situation. I'd say something along the lines of, "school x has offered better funding, but I really like your program - can you come any closer to what they have offered?" But that's just my two cents. I'm definitely curious how these conversations have gone for people in the past.

That would be my reaction - and was - because I got the exact same email. What degree/track did you apply for? Oh, and good luck with your phone interview!

Really guys, I know y'all are brilliant MA students. I just want a down to earth program that fits my interests. Surely some of you know of some schools that would be a good fit.

Tom Petty was, is, and always will be right. I'm applying to MA programs, focusing on those with solid rhet/comp emphases. So far I've completed apps to U of Louisville and UW-Milwaukee. Still looking for 4-6 more MA programs to apply to, preferably with down to earth professors and lots of funding (can't go without it) - any suggestions? Here's some context: Taught English at a Chinese university for 1 semester after graduation BA in English (emphasis Writing and Rhetoric) and a minor in TESOL from a medium sized state university 2 years tutoring in the writing center, 1 semester as student director 3.25 gpa/ 3.9 in major (less than stellar attendance freshman year) Gre verb:167 quant:157 aw:4 Research interests: basic writing pedagogy, new media, new journalism, critical theory, politics of education, cultural rhetoric, literacy and pop culture.
