  1. Congrats! May I ask who your POI was at U of Houston?
  2. I haven't heard anything. Not from them or from NCSU or from Virginia Tech. I've seen results posted for those schools, but not very many so it's hard to tell what's going on. Guess we'll just have to continue to wait and see!
  3. Hi Alecno, May I ask when you heard from Akron? Thanks! (And congrats on the acceptances!)
  4. Are you applying to PhD programs? Some of the schools I applied to state they take a holistic approach in considering applications; a weakness in one area can be offset by stellar qualifications in another area. That said, I think by "stellar" they may mean things like publications or research fellowships or at least independent research projects under your belt. Or a stellar GPA. However, schools may put more weight on the GRE when comparing applicants because it is the one standardized measure that they can use to compare applicants from different schools who have taken different coursework. I did talk about my work experience in my statements, but I talked about it in terms of having skills and experience (teamwork, leadership, etc) relevant to doing research. However, I also had good solid GRE scores, a 4.0 Psych GPA, and independent research projects under my belt. So it's hard to say if what I wrote in my statements helped my cause (though it doesn't seem to have hurt.) Have you applied to master's programs? I think with your work experience, GPA, and those GRE scores, you would be a contender for master's programs. I am unsure about the non-academic reference letter as well. Some of the program websites specifically say they are looking for letters of recommendation that speak to your ability to do research. Fit is another big consideration with programs. If your research experiences and interests fit well with a program, your chances would go up somewhat.
  5. Fantastic, Maziana! I was wondering if you had heard also! See you there!
  6. Congrats on SLU! I haven't heard anything from Colo State or from Rice yet.
  7. Just got accepted at University of Minnesota!
  8. Hi Melissa Jo, From what I've seen and heard so far, your Quant score is borderline/low for PhD programs. However, that doesn't mean you don't have a shot. It may mean you need to aim for schools that usually accept those with lower GRE scores. If you haven't already looked, there is a great listing of grad programs at www.siop.org. You can search by degree so you can look at the average accepted GREs for PhD programs or for master's programs. Best of luck to you!
  9. Just received an email from a POI at Wright State asking for a time to "chat" by phone. I don't know if it will be a telephone interview or what, so didn't post it in the results board yet. If you applied to Wright State, I guess they are starting to contact folks now.
  10. I'm wondering the same thing. I haven't heard anything from them yet. I'm wondering if it's only a particular POI. I don't see anything on the Results board from last year about VT interviews, phone or otherwise.
  11. To whoever posted in the Results board you were contacted for an interview by your POI at Virginia Tech, can you tell me who your POI was? Thanks! (Could message me if you don't want to post it here.)
  12. Yes, there is still plenty of time left, depending on where you applied. (Some schools have made decisions already.) You can check the Results board (up at the top, "Results Search") to see when the schools you applied to notified students last year.
  13. Congratulations, Qwerty and Mr. Bugle! That's awesome!
  14. You may already know about the SIOP (Society for Industrial Organizational Psychology) website, but check out www.siop.org. You may find some good information there about getting into the field, along with other resources. Best of luck to you!
  15. Welcome, TCMH (hope you don't mind; your user name is long )! I'm applying to a couple of the same programs as you, but my research interests are different. (Stated in general terms, I'm more into individual differences (personality, motivation) and their relationships with such things as leadership, CWBs.) Good luck with your applications and please keep us posted as you hear back from places!
  16. When you post results it gives you a list of options for the method of notification. So if it says "via Phone" or "via Email" that is how the applicant was notified.
  17. Hi Jim, I'm not a professional in the field, but in my academic preparation I've done a bit of research into it and I don't see how your background could possibly hurt you. I will say that if I were you, I would seriously try to attend a brick and mortar institution for your degree because that is where you're going to make contacts in the field, as well as get possible internships or practicum experience. Best of luck to you!
  18. Good idea, CharlizeRai, to post this question! Thank you! (I read it the wrong way at first, so I had to severely edit my post.)
  19. Thanks, Paige! Looking forward to meeting you as well! I'm really excited to talk with the faculty and students and check out the program!
  20. That's awesome, Maziana! I heard from mine from there today as well. I hope we both have good news to share in a couple of weeks!
  21. Look at the I/O PhD 2014 thread. Michigan State has made decisions and Penn State has sent out interview invites. Also I think Bowling Green has started making decisions. Most of the programs (I/O) I've applied to don't start notifying until the last week of Jan and through Feb so I doubt you have much to worry about!
  22. Thanks Roebuck and Maziana! Maziana, You are correct; most I/O programs don't interview. Penn State is one exception. I think there may be a couple of others that invite a few applicants out.
  23. Looks like Penn State is calling invitees to their visiting weekend. Just got off the phone with my POI. Very excited to go out there and check out the program! They are inviting 11 applicants. I thought it was going to be a phone interview so I prepped for that. I was a little caught off guard that it wasn't one. Hope I didn't sound too awkward on the phone!
  24. Looks like Michigan State sent out offers. And so begins the I/O season! Best of luck to everyone! BTW, I was wait listed. I remain hopeful!
