Bad news here too - found out early this aft. Don't get how they decide these things. I was first on the reversion list last year. Since my last application I have published three articles, and was quoted in Maclean's with regard to my research project. Yet I didn't even make the reversion list this time around. As my classmate likes to say, "It's all voodoo"....

Re reversion list: you can call to find out your ranking by discipline. I was first on the Education list last year, but was not offered a scholarship in the end. Here's the thing: they "over award" OGS knowing that people who receive SSHRC, etc. will turn it down. So...just because someone in your class turns down OGS, it doesn't mean the guy who is first on the reversion list will move up. A critical mass of folks have to refuse OGS before they will go to the reversion list. See below for a copy of the info I received last year. Please note that the woman listed at the bottom (Gerry Vibert) is no longer working for OGS, so don't call her Hope it helps! Status: On reversion list Thank you for your application for an Ontario Graduate Scholarship in the 2009-2010 competition. Your name has been placed on a reversion list. We regret that the Selection Board cannot recommend you for a scholarship in the first round of offers. However, a proportion of those who are successful in the first round will decline Ontario Graduate Scholarships for one reason or another. Scholarships made available by these cancellations will then be offered to applicants whose names are on the reversion lists. Separate reversion lists are maintained in rank order for each division of study. Scholarships are offered up to and including December 4, 2009. Please note that this letter does not guarantee an offer of a scholarship. Your file was assessed by a selection panel of three professors working independently. Panel members' ratings were reviewed by the panel chair, who reported the panel's recommendations to the Selection Board. Appeals based on the grounds of an error in administrative procedures by the Selection Board may be considered, but only where clearly documented substantive grounds are presented. Such an appeal must be submitted to the Fellowships Section, Student Support Branch, Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities within thirty days of the date of the letter. If you have any questions concerning your placement on the reversion list, please contact Mrs. Gerry Vibert at (807) 343-7257. We appreciate your interest in this competition, and wish you every success in your work.

For those new to this game, your status line will eventually change from: "Application complete and entered into the competition" to one of the following: Status: Successful applicant Status: Unsuccessful applicant Status: On reversion list
-
Sorry - left out vital detail there. Both of my classmates who heard on the 14th were successful. Of the remaining two, one got it last year, and I was first on the reversion list.
-
I'm not having trouble connecting - I'm just having difficulty resisting the urge to "refresh"... As for theories re panels, 2 of 4 students in my cohort (PhD Education) heard right away on the 14th. The other two (myself included) have not yet heard. Not sure what to make of that; I'm hanging on to faint hope at this point.

I wonder if we'll know by the end of the day...

I remember waiting for three or four days last year and thinking that was brutal. This is getting ridiculous! OGS = Onerous Gradual Suffering

Still waiting here, too *sigh*. This is my third (and final) kick at the cat. I was first on the reversion list last year (PhD education) but sadly, didn't move up. For those on the reversion list, you should know that they "over award" OGS funding, knowing that a certain percentage of successful applicants will turn it down. Congratulations to those who have received good news, and thanks to everyone for posting their updates. If nothing else, it is good to know that I'm not alone in my suffering

Thanks for the info and words of support. I'll be sure to let you know if I get any news...

I had a similarly crushing phone call with Gerry last week, who said that not enough people in Education (PhD) had refused their offer of OGS to warrant her going to the reversion list (I'm #1). I also asked about SSHRC refusals, and got the same answer. She simply has no way of knowing if every student who was offered SSHRC had refused their OGS. She did say that there may be some movement in September given that applicants could change their minds about going back to school, or universities may update OGS re students' status in their programs, etc. etc., but like you, I'm losing hope. Did she tell you how "close" you were (i.e., how many more people need to refuse before you get the nod)? I wanted to ask, but chickened out. I'm not sure she would be in a position to tell me anyway. Anyway, you're not alone. Keep your chin up!

No news here, either... Will post if I hear anything!

Thanks, mikaela & julesweinrib for the info. It is comforting to know that I'm not the only one in this weird limbo. Fingers crossed for all of us, and do post if you receive happy news! Scario

I am also on the reversion list (#1...argh), and have not heard anything from OGS. Given that the deadline for students to refuse their OGS is today (June 30), and there is one poor woman responsible for sorting out the thousands of OGS applications, I was told not expect to hear anything until late July at the earliest. I was also told to check the OGS website regularly as our status will be updated in the event that we are offered a scholarship. Good luck...fingers crossed!

Hi Gradstudent1, Thanks again for your valuable input. I called OGS a couple of weeks ago and found out that I am first on the reversion list for PhDs in Education. Apparently there is a high rate of refusal in this discipline (according to Gerry at OGS), so I just have to keep my fingers crossed that this year is a typical year and I move off the reversion list. I'm sorry that you didn't - that must have been a drag wondering what was going on for months on end. Sheesh. Scario

Thanks to gradstudent1 for the valuable info re the reversion list. I was afraid that that might be the case; that OGS "overawards" offers knowing that a percentage of people will turn them down. I tried to gain this info over the phone but couldn't get a straight answer. Gradstudent, I'm curious - did you have to wait until December to find out that you wouldn't be offered OGS, or was this made apparent earlier on? And do you know if, historically and statistically speaking, it was unusual to be #1 on the list and not be offered something? I guess it must depend to some extent on your discipline and how many offers were proferred in the first place. Good luck to all here, especially those poor tortured souls who are still waiting on SSHRC...
