  1. i concur.  i am glad it's them, (the competitiveness of their program) and not me (as their letter suggested).  ha ha.

At this point, I am a true connoisseur of rejection letters.

As of this morning, I can confirm that Notre Dame's is one of the best specimens that I've seen.

    Timing: 2/10 (awfully late)
Delivery: 5/10 (email to check website)
    Wording: 10/10 Pure rejection poetry.

  2. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you didn't make it to their interview weekend, you are most likely rejected.  They invited about twice as many students as there were spots available to the interview weekend alone, so it would be surprising if they had go to beyond that pool of applicants.  They have already done their acceptances and wait-lists from those students who interviewed.

no i know.  i just want the official letter already.  ya know?!

  3. From what I understand about Yale, the only tenured faculty member they currently have is Jennifer Herdt, since both Townes and Jenkins are leaving at the end of this school year; Townes to be dean of Vandy and Jenkins to UVa. Herdt is great. She's currently delivering a set of lectures at PTS. Her emphasis is mostly early modern Protestant ethics, but she also knows her Augustine and Aquinas.

Thanks.  Did someone say Jennings is leaving Vandy?

  4. I would echo what has already been said. Ultimately you have to decide which ethics you want to study. As Lux Lex Pax said, each school tends to produce similar students based on the scholars who teach there. It is fairly easy to spot, say, a Duke ethics student who was likely influenced by the Hauerwas school.

Thanks.  Yes, familiar with Hauerwas school, familiar with Elshtain and Nussbaum at Chicago and Porter and Whitmore at ND.  Can anybody speak more to Vanderbilt and Yale for me?  Thanks!

  5. Has anybody heard if there is any action on the BC waitlist?  Anyone make it on?  Anyone turn down their spot?  I really really want to go to BC.  I know I sound like I am whining but that is my sincere hope.  I really cannot wait until April 15.  Hopefully there will be an Easter miracle (other than the resurrection of course!).  :)

  6. I know the NELC admits were contacted a little while ago already, so I'm assuming the Committee for the Study of Religion PhD

I swear I am going crazy refreshing this page and my email. Earlier in the semester when I was writing lectures all day I was fine...but now, uggg. I'm assuming I didn't get in to UT Austin, which is a shame because I felt like I would fit well, and I'm guessing if I don't hear from Toronto in the next several hours I didn't get in there either. Toronto was the last big school that I would be chomping at the bit to go to. On top of all of this I'm waiting to hear back from the Fulbright, which might not happen for several weeks yet!!! /rant

    boston college seems pretty awesome!

  7. So I was under the impression that Loyola Chicago contacted everyone who was accepted and wait listed via e-mail. I was told they accepted two applicants, and someone posted in the results forum that they were #1 on the wait list should one of the candidates decline.

I have not received any e-mails from Loyola but when checking my postal mail tonight, I received a letter of acceptance. It said that if I applied for a merit award, I would receive notification of the outcome separately from the Graduate School.

So those of you who have not yet heard back from Loyola Chicago....there may still be hope! Perhaps they took more people? Or perhaps I was on a wait list and didn't know it. Or maybe they awarded the two people already accepted with the Merit Awards and I was accepted without financial aid.

Either way... if you applied be sure to check your postal mail often!

Edit: this was for the Integrative Studies in Ethics and Theology program.

congrats!  i was accepted there too with full funding, and i don't think they accept w/out full funding.  perhaps someone else dropped?  pm me if you want to chat about what i've learned so far!

  8. Do you have any idea when Duquesne's committee is meeting or when they usually start sending out responses? There's isn't much info in the results search on grad cafe, which is why I'm asking.

hi unfortunately i think it's later like mid march which kind of stinks.  he applied three years ago and quite a bit has changed since then.  sorry i can't be more help.

  9. Not sure how many others are waiting on Yale, but I just received an email from them so if you haven't heard back you probably will soon! (My application was rejected...which was no real surprise.) I applied to the Religious ethics program.

Congrats to those of you who were accepted!

and yet uchicago wait list and bc etc. are not too shabby

  10. Theo-Be, so their wait-list is ranked? I wasn't sure how that worked. So, its it 6 people on the waiting list for just your area?

I could be confused about the # on the wait list.  i apologize if i'm mixing up the #s (i still don't understand why you'd extend 17 with an enrollment hope for 12) but i did speak to him yesterday.  what he said is that it's not ranked by area just ranked.  so say two from systematics and one from NT drop then someone who's from ethics could still get in.  did you receive waitlist word?  are you ethics?  good luck
