Just received an email to schedule an interview for Umass Dartmouth. Really really surprised at these quick responses....8-10 days after the deadline. It'll make the long wait from the other Unis from my list more nerve racking. -

Friend of mine got a preliminary interview call today with Indiana Bloomington for Sculpture. Probably calls only went out for the sculpture department, but I really have no clue. Applications were due January 15th, it's crazy how fast calls are going out, makes me so nervous about my other applications. -

100% positive it was for an interview. There was a link at the bottom of the email with a form to fill out. Scheduled it for Feb 6th. Edit: sorry I totally misread your message, thought you meant wouldnt get worked up about it being an interview. Must be nerves at the moment. Also has anyone heard from Penn State? I have a friend waiting to hear from them, their deadlines were mid december -

Just got an email from MassArt today for an interview. Really shocked to hear from them so soon, applications were due January 15th and I turned mine in on the 14th. Havent scheduled the interview just yet, about to do it via email. Just in complete shock to hear from them so soon. Makes me worried about the other applications I've sent out (RISD's deadline was Jan 10th). Edit: scheduled my interview for Feb. 6th. Still have three more schools to apply for, super nervous about all of this. -

For me the worst question is "how does your work fit into the contemporary art world?". I'll probably have to seriously prepare myself for this, critiques are easy, but I just know I'll stumble through that question. Also about the portfolio, I don't actually think it'll be a bad thing, but i also think it couldn't hurt to just delete it. Can't wait for march to arrive, I'm so ready to get this over with. And about interviews, you can check the other thread, some websites will specify if they have interviews, others won't. Out of my list, I know RISD, MassART, SMFA, Syracuse have interviews and I assume there are others that I just dont know about. Usually they expect an onsite interview, unless you're international or at a great distance, then its phone or skype. Some schools just have phone interviews. A lot of the time you will have to defend your work, but they ask you other questions as well. I believe theres a thread that has a list to many of the questions, when I find it I'll like it on here. And now on SMFA, all my letters of recommendations are gone. Ugh... -

Well I checked the status of my applications for both UConn and VCU, both read as submitted but items incomplete. Emailed VCU. All my slideroom info and transcripts on their status page are blank, even though slideroom confirms to have been submitted and I have delivery confirmation on transcripts, so I'm hoping its just something on their part, they may be swamped due to high traffic or something. Uconn says that its incomplete due to not receiving test scores, which are not even needed for the major, so I will be calling them monday morning just to confirm everything is in order and that it is normal. I wish i had noticed this yesterday morning, this weekend will be very stressful. Also, reading the last years freak out thread, a lot of people declined to post their portfolio because they were aware schools would actually cruise this site and look at stuff, yale was one of them known. I wish I had known that before posting, I couldn't edit my original post, so i just deleted my tumblr, it's not my main one anyways, just created it for this site. In terms of what I'll wear, I'm not quite sure yet, if I'm lucky enough to get an interview, I have a ton of dresses, just unsure about how I want to go. I just ordered this dress, which should be coming in today: http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/guest-of-honor-dress-in-moths pair that with a nice sweater or cardigan and nice shoes and I should be ok, I hope. -

Well, I contacted both schools and managed to email them my reformatted resume, thank goodness! Taking the week off to relax then finishing up the next 5 of my applications (just my statement of intents for each). All 5 are due on Feb 1st, so I have plenty of time. -
Whoops, I meant undergrad. Was at SELU from 2005-2011 for my B.A. I'm glad you like my work, thats exactly what I want the viewer to feel. Sadly, about half of the female viewers dislike my work, they've called it gross and disgusting, as well as "halloweenie" (that one I dont really get), but I make the work for myself, I doubt I could make them like any of it. I was looking at your work, I really gravitate towards Your Tearing Me Apart and your litho prints, really liking the childlike imagery mixed with the more mature illustrations. Are the more detailed images transfers? I think they the mixture of both set up a nice dialogue. What schools are you applying to? I always find it interesting to see where someone wants to go, a lot of people seem to want any place in the US, I'm focusing on the New England area (moved here in 2012 to try and settle in for in state tuition waivers).

Well, just found another reason to freak out :/ Found out while saving from googledocs to my pc, there was a formatting error which formatted the text weirdly (the font changes halfway through and bullets aren't indented, instead the text is moved to the edge of the page). I've already sent that file to VCU's Slideroom and Massart... I sent them both emails asking to resubmit it, but holding my breath on that. If I don't hear anything from them by noon, I'll be calling. -
Thanks, I didn't post it, but I just added it: http://crisschayer.tumblr.com/post/40555312754/artist-statement Spent seven years in grad school (Katrina drew things out for a bit) and when I finally graduated, I was so happy to be done and have a break from art. Not even 6 months later, I wanted to go back to art. The only thing that has kept me slightly positive is I had some decent extracurriculars. Was founder and president of the local chapter of Kappa Pi (international honors art fraternity), and an officer for two other art organizations. My boyfriend gets frustrated at my pessimistic attitude, but I figure, as long as I'm putting in all my effort, even if I get rejected, it's ok.

Thanks! I used to be so confident in my work, but I recently graduated in fall 2011 and moved up near boston in 2012 to begin preparing for grad school and I guess the 8+ months art free sort of left me very insecure about my work. Lost most of my work in the process of moving and just recently got started in November working on art again. I went to Southeastern Louisiana University and received a B.A.. It's not a big school, but their art program is accredited.

I'm embarrassed to say I don't currrently have a website, took mine down a year ago or so. Just made a quick tumblr page with my work for feed from ya'll. Any criticism is accepted and appreciated. Keeping my expectations and hopes low for getting into a program, also applying to residencies. There are two pages of work, with the next link at the very bottom of the page. What I included were only pictures I submitted for my portfolio. I just recently realized I should've taken some close ups of the resin with the bees, but I didn't think of it. http://crisschayer.tumblr.com/

I'm applying to: Rhode Island School of Design MassArt VCU UConn Syracuse Umass:Dartmouth Umass:Amherst Boston U School of Museum of Fine Arts Boston Also applying to these residencies: Skowhegan Vermont Studio Center Djerassi Kimmel Harding Nielson Center Sculpture Space We'll see if I get in anywhere. Only a few more months until then!

Almost done with everything, just need to take pictures of two more sculptures I finished this week. Already submitted all my paperwork, just need to submit my slideroom portfolio. School I'm applying for (MFA Sculpture): Rhode Island School of Design Virginia Commonwealth University of Connecticut Syracuse MassArt Boston University Umass:Dartmouth Umass:Amherst School of Museum of Fine Arts Boston VCU, Uconn, and Syracuse are all sort of extra applications, I'd much rather stay near New England. Recently moved from New Orleans up to Massachusetts so I can become a resident and save some tuition cost. At this point, I've had a pretty low expectation of getting into grad school, maybe due to the fact that I've been away from college for a year and not around fellow students, making me question my actual artistic talent. This isn't a whine post, mostly wondering if others have that same feeling (I assume they do). I also worry because my portfolio has a lot of the same color schemes (Neutral/yellow), I wonder if thats a bad thing. As soon as the application process is done, I'll be going back to New Orleans for two weeks so hopefully that will make the wait easier, take my mind off of things. I'm also applying to residencies, Skowhegan/sculpturespace/Bemis in case this whole grad school thing doesnt work out.
