  1. I actually called admissions today as soon as I got the email. They said they accidentally sent a mass email of it, but they checked my paperwork and said everything is in good order. It cant hurt to call!
  2. Friend just got a call from UConn asking to interview. Guess I can scratch that off my list, but super happy for him! They only accept 5 people into their MFA program. When in doubt, CALL THEM! It just takes a few minutes and they may just tell you that something was missing and to send/email it to them.
  3. Edited out. god I was so dumb today. Can you edit your post as well?
  4. OK so I'm a royal idiot, the person who called this morning wasnt for Massart. She had a heavy accent so misunderstood and thought she was from Massart when she was really from Amherst (I was half asleep when I answered). The only reason I learned was because I was #1 on the waitlist as well (which I thought was too much of coincidence). God I'm dumb
  5. Just got an email for an interview at SMFA on March 9th 8am-6pm. Been super stressed about grad school/valentines day this week, so this makes me feel a little better.
  6. Already answered you in the other thread you asked this My status for VCU reads "Complete ready for review", if you look at the box on the bottom of your application, it'll say what they have received and when. I'm having the incomplete status problem with UConn so I'm calling them
  7. My status for VCU reads as "complete ready for review". Check the box at the bottom, it should say what they have from you. My UConn status reads as Incomplete though will probably have to call them tomorrow. Damn you edited out your question. I'll still keep my answer here for you
  8. I believe thats for departments without interviews. Sculpture department has interviews so they will most likely contact interview candidates much sooner than that.I'd say late feb-early march then final decision on or before march 24th. :/
  9. If you check RISD's facebook admissions page, I asked about sculpture and they replied saying they wont be contacting people for interviews until a few more weeks
  10. Gpa doesn't matter. Graduated with a 2.979 and every professor I've spoken To has told me not to worry. Out of everything, your portfolio and statement matter the most. Gpa wise, your art gpa is most important (mines a 3.6) not so much your overall. Hwrois, you keep finding more and more things to be worried about! Gpa and acceptance rates shouldn't be worrying you, those are the few things you have little to no control over at this point
  11. There is a Facebook risd admissions page where you can ask them any question. I do know they typically intrview for sculpture applicants but they won't be contacting people until two weeks or so. I assume the timeline is similar for graphic designers but can always ask them.
  12. Dartmouth contacted me today to postpone interview until next Friday (huge blizzard hitting is in Boston tomorrow). He did tell me they liked my work and that I may end up hearing from them before the interview because they are being pressured to make their final decisions as early as possible. So that made me feel a bit better after the rough interview with massart.
  13. Congrats! How were you notified? Via email?
  14. Just had my interview with massart. Oh boy, I managed to sound so dumb. Expecting to be wait listed or rejected. At least it was a great experience. Got 3 of their business cards so I plan to keep in touch. The 2-3 week wait will be tough.
  15. I heard from them via email.
  16. depends, what school is it? I know Skowhegan extended its deadline due to its site messing up hours before the deadline.
  17. This may seem like a strange question, but I wanted y'alls opinions on this subject. I have an interview Wednesday and Friday and wonder how much information I should give about my grades. My grades are ok,2.979 overall, but I started out really rough. Fall 2005 was my first semester (Katrina semester), but I managed to get Bs and Cs, however in 2006, I was in a very abusive relationship, physically and sexually for a few months, breaking up with him almost killed me. I failed that semester and continued withdrawing from all of my classes every semester for almost a year and a half. Dealing with MDD along with the trauma was really difficult, but I pulled through and went on to a very successful college career. How much is too much information for an interview? I dont want to scare them away if they ask about my grades, which they most likely will. Sorry if this is an inappropriate post, but my senior seminar professor made it very clear when he used to handle admissions at his last university (one that is fairly well known), he, along with other professors, would never want a student with issues, and I'm afraid of how I may sound. Thanks.
  18. Congrats! I still have to apply to BU myself, but their deadline isnt until feb 15. They dont do interviews so don't expect to hear anything until end of Feb-March.
  19. Congrats and nice to see an acceptance so early ! I've been reading the entire 2012 thread, very depressing.
  20. They always say the first is a rejection, gotta get it out of the way!
  21. Wow, i get a real carnival sense from these pieces. Reminds me of back home. Great use of color, line and brushtrokes. You should definitely check out some louisiana artists. If I find any during my off time, I'll PM you!
  22. I think I only interpreted it as such due to combination of quotes under 'interesting' and the use of the word trite.I think if just one of those were in the post, I would've read it differently. I was going to edit this part into the previous post. I may have entirely misunderstood what he was trying to say, but to say someones reasons are trite just really rubbed me the wrong way. Hell, I'm going to gradschool for the same reasons as he is, but I'm in a situation where I'm lucky enough to not have to worry about how much money I'm making right now. I do have to worry about affording the school, which is why I stayed in state in the deep south for my undergrad.
  23. I have to say, your first post comes off a bit offensive. There are many reasons to go to grad school, just to make work definitely shouldn't be the only reason. I can make all the work I want at home, what I would gain from grad school is the dialogue created by the faculty and colleagues, resources to further me education, a realistic stepping stone in a way that will allow me to pursue my arts full time (make some sort of livable cash). I don't have kinds, am not married, and no need to settle down, but those people who have lives and responsibilities, their reasons are no less credible. In fact, if you just want to make work, invest in a studio or a garage space. Academic at is more than just making it, it's discussing it, understanding it past and present, and learning the business behind it. Depends on what your definition of evolved is. I know I've only posted the work I included in my graduate portfolios. I'm sure if more people, including myself, posted all of our work from the past 5-10 years, you'd see an evolution of sorts. Your work should be constantly changing, growing and evolving. It should never reach it's peak, otherwise, where else do you go? I have no idea what you are saying by 'interesting', but to me, it comes off a bit pretentious. Maybe its due to the entire post. Sorry if this came out so negative, but your post left me with a really bad taste in my mouth and has been sitting in the back of my head all day. on another note, where are you applying to? It's nice to see so many sculpture people! I keep seeing painters and it always bums me out (sorry painters, I love you guys, but I want to see more 3D work!!!). Cant wait until my final applications are done, then I can start preparing for my interviews and start rereading "Why is that Art?", "Duchamp" and "House of Leave". Edit: I realize this came off harsher than I probably intend to. Not changing anything in the post, but just wanted to address the harsh tone.
  24. I'm actually from NOLA , born and raised. Moved up here last February so I could claim in state residency. Used up my savings to move up here and try to find a job, finally found one and worked long enough to be able to quit and focus on a couple of new pieces as well as my applications. So many things I'm not used to, I feel extremely guilty for living here almost a year but I havent been to a single gallery or art opening (I did go to a Cindy Sherman Exhibit at MoMA, but nothing in MA). Been strapped for cash so I'm just trying to spend as little as possible until April when I'll start job hunting again, I want to focus everything on preparing for my interviews. RISD and SMFA seem amazing, I've always tried to take as many different art classes as possible, so SMFA's elective program is perfect for me. Their costs, however, makes me incredibly nervous. Have an interview with MassArt next week, hope I do well. I had a stomach flu this week and fainted, hitting my mouth and busting my lip. I know that sounds trivial, but I want to look my best for the interview. Looking my best will make me feel so much more confident! Happily surprised to see a so many people contributing in the sculpture thread! Edit: I still havent applied to Amherst, Syracuse, Skowhegan, or BU. Working on those today. The lack of Slideroom and having to create a compiled PDF is such a turnoff for Amherst. These other Slideroom schools are spoiling me!
  25. Heard from massart on 1/25 and umass Dartmouth on 1/28. Pretty shocked to hear back this early considering massart was due on 1/15 and umass Dartmouth isn't due until 2/1. Scheduled massarts interview for feb 6th and waiting to hear back from darthmouth.
