  1. I'm still waiting. I heard from a professor today that some people simply wait until April 15. That is very discouraging. In my situation, I am keeping one school waiting while I wait to hear from another. I'm sure that's common for many. However, there must be people somewhere who have heard from all their schools and just need to make a decision. I had just assumed people would not put off these decisions so long! Good luck to all who are still waiting!
  2. sweetpearl16, I am really sorry. That sounds very frustrating. I'm in quite a different position--I feel pressure to go ahead and start because I've been out of school a while--but I absolutely agree that the waiting is crazy making. I've also been on this waitlist for two months. But I guess it will be over sooner rather than later at this point!
  3. sweetpearl16, would you accept the school you're waiting on? I think I would, but I don't know for sure. One thing I haven't done is talk with other grad students at this school, in part because I don't know whether I'll get in. But the longer I wait, the more I feel like I should go ahead and contact some students. I do know faculty at the school, which is obviously very helpful, but hearing from other students would be as well.
  4. Is anyone else still waiting on a waitlist? I figured people would have made decisions by the end of March. Sigh.
  5. Speaking of decisions, what are people's understandings of when people start to really finalize decisions and those of us waiting on wait lists can begin to hear back from schools? I have one acceptance and one wait list, and I'd definitely take the wait list school if I could, but the uncertainty and waiting are driving me nuts. (Though uncertainty and waiting seem par for the course with this entire process.)
  6. It looks like in the past maybe Chicago sends out rejections in waves? Anyway, just waiting for mine any day now . . . . Did anyone attend the Duke anthro weekend last weekend? Just wondering how it went.
  7. No, I contacted the person the UCI website directed me to contact: John Sommerhauser. As I said: incredibly nice and incredibly prompt response! I think he's a social sciences graduate school person, not an anthro-specific person.
  8. I was on a contacting spree, so I contacted Irvine. The very nice man there told me that the committee should be sending out the first round this week. He said he didn't know if there would be a second round or a third round.
  9. If I do hear from Ned or Stanford, I'll definitely let you guys know!
  10. danthro, yes, I e-mailed Ned. At Stanford, I e-mailed anth_gradadmission. I think I probably found that address on the application site somewhere. I haven't heard from either. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised, though in the past it sounds like people have gotten responses from Ned. That said, maybe he's tired of responding to anxious applicants!
  11. danthro, I e-mailed both departments (Berkeley and Stanford) on Thursday and haven't heard anything in response. Nor has my application status changed for either. Maybe they've both made offers and are waiting to get some acceptances before sending out rejections? Or since there's at least one Stanford waitlist on the results board, maybe they are just slow to send out the rejections. Just making it all that much more pleasant to receive . . . Ugh.
  12. C'estLaVie, I'm curious about Berkeley too. I actually e-mailed the department but have not received a response. Sigh. panda_bear, you may want to check the results board to see what schools have notified already and the patterns for notification in the past. I think Irvine is a bit later in February (maybe mid-February). I don't know about your other schools, but doing a results search should help. Congratulations to all who received good news this week. Here's to more good news next!
  13. To the Stanford acceptance, if you're reading this, please share what you know about whether they are done with decisions, etc. Thanks!!
  14. I have not heard anything from Chicago or Stanford, though obviously someone has per the results search. Also, I haven't heard anything from Irvine, even though my application status has been "under review" since late December or early January. Also, someone called my house and asked to speak with me the other day, and the person who answered the phone didn't take a message. So I don't know who called! Probably someone from my college asking for money . . . . I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good news for all of us who are so anxiously waiting.
  15. I don't believe anyone is lying on the results page. Since lots of people seem to post in groups (i.e., after a department has made its decisions), and since many of us are applying to the same schools (or there's a lot of overlap), what does it mean when there's just one or two results for a school? I don't know. But I definitely don't think people are trying to fake the results.
  16. I don't know--when there's only one or two acceptances on the results page, I wonder if it's just an early acceptance and the rest of the decisions haven't been finalized yet. Do departments operate that way? I don't know, but it seems odd when there are just a few results and not the usual flood.
  17. It's my understanding that there were only a couple Berkeley interviews, which sounds like they aren't done or aren't doing interviews for everyone or something along those lines. I don't think those of us who weren't interviewed are necessarily out of the running at this point.
  18. Do any of you who heard from Berkeley have any idea when the department plans on making decisions?
  19. Ugh! That is unsettling. Well, then, I will return to checking the in-box AND the application sites . . .
  20. I just wanted to add that it seems to depend on the system the school is using whether you can see your updated status or not. So I've just been resorting to constant refreshing of my inbox.
  21. It does seem like schools are moving a bit faster than usual. It would be great to have everything wrapped up by the end of February! That is very exciting about your Penn interview, PhDreams. I'm glad it went so well!
  22. PhDreams: I haven't heard from Stanford. Since they seemed to still be pulling applications together this month and usually don't appear to contact people until later--judging by old results searches--I had not been thinking too much about them. Have you heard something? Hope the interview went well! (I think you had one at Penn, right?)
  23. shockwave, I think you asked a question on another thread about Duke. My sense is that they have done the first round of interviews (they said they had fifteen candidates) and should decide next week. I don't know how they handle waitlists, etc., so I don't know if this is final or not. I am curious--OK, queasily, squirmingly curious--about the other Berkeley interview and whether that means Berkeley is only just starting up or what. Does anyone know if they do a full round of interviews or if they just interview some candidates?
  24. That is great, Platysaurus! I am totally jealous . . . . What is everyone's sense about contacting interviewers after a phone or Skype interview to say thank you?
