  1. Some of the best scholars in modern Chinese literature and culture that I've met graduated from Columbia's EALC Ph.D program. Definitely go for it.
  2. I mostly focus on representations of marginalized identities within Japanese literatures and films through the lens of multiculturalism, postmodernism, postcolonialism and gender and sexuality studies. I'm assuming that you also hope to work with Naoki Sakai?
  3. I did! It seems like an awesome program and the offer that I got was jis too amazing to turn down... Are you planning to visit? I'm thinking of going next week.
  4. I'm not. I think that referred to all applicants, though.
  5. Though I'm ecstatic about my one admit, I still haven't heard from a lot of places that have both rejections and acceptances posted on the results board... I am very tempted to contact these programs but fear for the worst... Part of me wonders if I just wasn't good enough for a formal rejection letter, to be honest.
  6. Hi Rose Egypt. I'm in a similar situation to you. I e-mailed the program coordinator regarding an issue with my app a few days ago, though, and I got an automatic message saying that everyone will be notified by March 15.... let's hold on to that thread of hope together.
  7. Hi (I am newish but...). I got unofficially accepted into Rutgers's comparative literature program over the phone last week. I think, though, that they are still in the process of sending out notifications/interviewing now, judging from what the DGS told me when I talked to her again this week. Good luck with both!
  8. Thank you, kyjin! I'll keep my fingers crossed. I also applied to Cornell but have yet to hear anything from them--though three people posted rejections last week. Does that mean that the acceptances have been sent out already? >,<
  9. Hello, I am more or less new to this forum (and have been lurking this past application season). I was wondering if someone could provide insight for me on this issue (it's my first time applying, and I am kind of a scrub at these things). I applied to Yale's Ph.D program in EALL originally but, a few weeks ago, the DGS contacted me stating that, though they read my application with interest, they recommended that I transfer it to an application for the MA program in East Asian Studies. Is this a normal thing to happen during the process, and, if so, does that mean that I have a decent chance of being accepted into their MA program?
