Congrats on your admissions! Is HKS your top choice? Will you attend admit day? You may have read that admissions sometimes suggests to switch candidates to another program. In your case, you may have also been a good fit for the MPA2. Did they offer you that, or did you not click that optional box when you applied?

If you get in at WWS (you'll know tomorrow or Friday for sure), then its a full ride. I assume you will then turn down HKS, SAIS, etc. in favor of WWS?
-
Can an admit please feedback on this to clarify?
-
Can you share some data/background on yourself with us?
-
Thanks for the feedback. Was there any mention of a background check? I read that b-schools are now making their offers conditional of passing such a check, i.e. HBS, MIT Sloan, Wharton etc.

Do you know if HKS is giving out travel vouchers to attend admit day? I find it cool that Chicago Harris incentivizes admits with $250. Its not much (especially if you're international), but better than nothing.

I find it strange that the MC/MPAs, especially Masons, havent been notified first, given the fact that the summer program is only 3 months or so away. Funding, visa, relocation, job resignation, etc. and all that still have to be tackled in this short time frame. And I honestly dont know how those who require a visa can get it until admit day which is only 2-3 weeks from now. It's a logistical nightmare.

Do the admitted/waitlisted/denied candidates mind posting their general admissions text here so that we who are still awaiting know a bit about what to expect?
-
If it's a very good job offer I would go ahead and take it. If you get into your top choice of school, you can most likely defer saying that you had a great job opportunity you couldn't pass on. I doubt they will say no. Only in MBA programs they tend not to defer.

Can you elaborate on "past cohorts" and "pretty large groups" please?

To my knowledge (Matt Clemons did even comment on this) the blog gets refreshed 9am EST. So it could be possible that an update has been uploaded, but the blog won't refresh til tomorrow morning.

There is a remote possibility that some HKS applicants actually already know whether they're admitted or not. Zuckerman Fellows were notified by 8th March (last Friday) whether they're in the run or not for a fellowship. http://www.centerforpublicleadership.org/ZuckermanFellowship/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=631&Itemid=308 And applicants are only considered (for review/interview) if they're admitted at HKS. Too bad that none of them is either following this forum or willing to share the news with us.

@ Revolution: The post from Reasonablyterrified may interest you as (s)he is a joint MBA/MPP applicant at Stanford.

Do you mind sharing that data/source/link with us? -
We can spin this further since additional info was provided on that website. I calculated following stats from those given numbers AND the class size figures mentioned in the HKS emplyoment report, 2011. Number of applicants - admitted students (admissions rate) - enrolled students (estimated yield): MPP: 1753 - 369 (21%) - 179 (49%) MPA/ID: 371 - 96 (26%) - 58 (60%) MC/MPA: 603 - 282 (47%) - 173 (61%) MPA2: 159 - 98 (62%) - 96 (98% -> this figure seems a bit off?) Total HKS applicants: 2886, of which are: MPP: 61% MPA/ID: 13% MC/MPA: 21% MPA2: 5%

Someone posted in the SAIS subforum interesting admissions stats. Have gone through that website (Japanese) and found following admissions stats on HKS. MPP: 21.05% (http://www.ryugaku.com/graddb/home/data/id/38307) MPA/ID: 25.88% (http://www.ryugaku.com/graddb/home/data/id/128679) MC/MPA: 46.77% (http://www.ryugaku.com/graddb/home/data/id/30619) MPA2: 61.64% (http://www.ryugaku.com/graddb/home/data/id/38301) Forgot to mention, the figures are for 2011.

Yes, I would strongly urge HKS to look at Chicago Harris etc. who do a better job (than in previous years) in keeping their "future" alumni updated.

As a comparison, let's look inside Harvard. Application deadline: HKS/30 Nov, HBS/07 Jan (R2) Standard interviews: HKS/No, HBS/11 Feb-08 Mar Number of applications: HKS/ ca. 2000, HBS/ca. 9000 Application decisions: HKS/ca. 15-29 Mar, HBS/27 Mar -> Summary: HKS has an application deadline over 1 month in advance of HBS; HBS has more than 4x the number of applications; HKS conducts no standard interviews; but HKS ends up notifying candidates around SAME time as HBS !!
-
Wow that's very impressive, I thought it was only for Australian nationals? I applied for the Dubin, Gleitsman, and other fellowships at Harvard. Loans etc are not an option for me, that's the deal I have with my wife to go back to grad school (just recently paid off my college and grad school debt).

Yes I think tomorrow or Wednesday. Which scholarship did you obtain?

Internal critique from Harvard's Government Dept. vs. HKS: ...The school still has vocal critics in the other disciplines, notably in the Government Department, who have long resented the resources poured into the behemoth across the square. ''They're trying to teach people government without philosophy, theory, history and ethics,'' says Prof. Stanley Hoffmann. ''They're telling them how to be good bureaucrats and write memos. Frankly, it's a pretty limited science they've got down there.'' Samuel H. Beer, a professor emeritus of government, worries about the economists' dominance at the school. ''Economists are brilliant people with blinders on,'' he says. ''You can't let economists run anything.''... This is another post by an HBS/HKS joint grad, who in my view I would have never thought had a realistic chance of getting in, but she did. http://www.vault.com/wps/portal/usa/vcm/detail/Career-Advice/Education-Advice/The-Accidental-MBA:-My-Unconventional-Journey-to-Harvard-Business-School?id=60992&filter_type=0&filter_id=0

And for those readers who were obsessing about HBS vs. HKS, here is another interesting article posted by an actual student. http://sarahdillard.wordpress.com/2012/01/06/hbs-hks-or-both/

Funny statement by an HKS student about his school debt. (Trying to pass the time while waiting for the admissions decisions..) http://isites.harvard.edu/icb/icb.do?keyword=k85113&pageid=icb.page493825
