  1. :-). You can just sort the data on countries. Just be sure it resorts with all related data held together. I do that a lot too.
  2. Tidbits learned from the spreadsheet: I just noticed that someone is working with 'Action for Cheetahs'!!! That sounds so incredibly, freakin' rad.
  3. Hey alls! I just went through and fixed some formatting issues on the spreadsheet. Overall people are doing a really great job of keeping it clean and up to date. I suspect not everyone loves spreadsheets! Keep adding information! FYI: If you are not sure of the input choices, hover over the category header and they will pop up. The colors should autofill. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsJrSSHnssqFdHNPell4VVZwWDgtWUpQcTVVeWM0bWc&usp=sharing#gid=1
  4. I just did some cleanup on the spreadsheet. Remember that you can just enter your name into the bottom of the list. It's a spreadsheet folks so the data can be shuffled around by column, don't worry about trying to be alphabetical. It's just nice to see others applying places, make connections and get the stress out as we get closer to the final days. Cheers! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsJrSSHnssqFdHNPell4VVZwWDgtWUpQcTVVeWM0bWc&usp=sharing#gid=1 Amirah
  5. That sounds like someone the region administrator may be able to help you with or your FPA on campus. And perhaps the police? Just sayin.
  6. Umm, nope. I spoke to the research award. It's the only thing I have familiarity with. I don't know anything about the Scholar award but I thought it would be helpful and supportive to share what I do know, that's why I specified in my original post that I was referring to the research award. Sorry for the confusion. Come sometime in January (hopefully) those applying for research/study awards will, if they make it through the first round receive an email which looks like this: "I am pleased to inform you that the National Screening Committee of the Institute of International Education (IIE) has recommended you for a grant under the Fulbright U.S. Student Program for the academic year 2013-14. Your application has been forwarded to the supervising agency abroad for final review. In addition, your application will be forwarded to the program sponsor, the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State, for transmittal to the presidentially-appointed J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FFSB). The FFSB makes final decisions on Fulbright awards. This letter is not notification of a grant since the number of recommended candidates exceeds the number of awards available. If you are selected for an award, you will receive notification of your status from the FFSB. If you are named an alternate or are not selected, you will be notified by IIE. For further information about the next stage in the selection process, go to the website: http://us.fulbrightonline.org/information-for-recommended-candidates Since selection is a lengthy process, the final decision for some countries may not be made before the end of June. In the meantime, it is important that you advise us immediately if there are factors that could preclude you from accepting the grant. Receipt of a grant is contingent upon: (a) submission of official hard copies of your transcripts (see below); ( completion of the bachelor’s degree for graduating seniors; ( c ) approval by the FSB; (d) concurrence by the supervising agency abroad; (e) medical and research clearances; (f) security factors in the country of your application; (g) availability of funds; and (h) participation in a Pre-Departure Orientation, where required. Congratulations on your success in the preliminary stages of the competition. Sincerely yours, Daniel Kramer Director, U.S. Student Programs Please arrange to have official transcripts from your current academic institution (if enrolled) and all institutions from which you received a Bachelor’s or Master’s or doctoral degree sent to: OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS U.S. Student ProgramsInstitute of International Education 809 United Nations Plaza New York, NY 10017 IIE must receive these transcripts by March 1, 2013 at the latest in order for you to continue to be considered for a 2013-14 Fulbright grant. Transcripts must be in the original sealed envelope as issued by the Registrar’s office. See the website above for more information. "
  7. Well, if they asked you for more documentation you should get on sending it. For the research awards if we make it through the rec process we have to send another round of transcripts, only they have to be official this time. Then you wait....and wait....and wait... You can check the past spreadsheets to find out when others were notified and/or to contact them: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsJrSSHnssqFdHNPell4VVZwWDgtWUpQcTVVeWM0bWc&usp=sharing#gid=27
  8. Yayyy!! Your still out there! So happy for you that you got to Germany, congratulations!
  9. The notifications are for when you find out your accepted/waitlisted/not accepted status. January is the 1st round notifications. Does that clarify?
  10. Hello my friends! I have updated the spreadsheet and hope you will use it, love it, find it useful and a possible stress reliever. I know I did last year. Anyone with the link can edit. I left the 'Region' and 'Status' columns populated so you can just cut and paste your details into it. I started the process. Just make changes according to your particular region and needs. It's fun to see the range of people and connect with others who may be in your field/regional interest. **What I don't have time to do, however, is police the spreadsheet. So please add with care.** Thank you!! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsJrSSHnssqFdHNPell4VVZwWDgtWUpQcTVVeWM0bWc&usp=sharing
  11. Hey all, I don't think anyone has posted this yet, if you have I apologise for the duplication, but the spreadsheet of notifications was nice for reducing stress last round. Here is the link https://docs.google.com/a/uw.edu/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmoTe-gJd4B9dFJ0aW1mYTVkYnhKcUEzR28yRTNwdlE&pli=1#gid=1 Anybody want to update it?
  12. Hey I can't find a thread for the new application cycle. Am I crazy or has no one got a 2014-2015 thread happening yet?
  13. Generally unless you are currently affiliated with a university or college you cannot go through the IRB process so it is a moot point. If, however, you are currently a student and you hope to use this research for something school related you may have to go through the process, depending on your project of course. If you are an alumni, like me, but hope to use your Fulbright research for future dissertation research, like me, things can get a little sticky but it is not un-overcome-able. I had several long conversations about this subject with my school. I have had to do the IRB process before and it is a nightmare for social scientists so if you don't have to do it count yourself lucky. In my case my faculty was going to sort of 'sign off as a co-researcher' on my project so we could get it through the IRB process and thus I would be able to use the data I collected in my PhD work. Hopefully that may still come true. :-) Just remember human subjects is a school or research facility based thing. Fulbright just wants you to be familiar with, and able to exercise, ethical standards in research. If your app got this far they think you have that skill. From Fulbright: "Ethical Requirements: Applicants proposing research involving human beings or animals as research subjects who plan to formally publish the results or to use the results in a graduate program should have their projects vetted by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at their home institutions. At-large applicants should conduct an individual ethics review ensuring that their proposed projects are consistent with ethical standards for research involving humans as research participants as outlined in the National Guidelines for Human Subjects Research(U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Extramural Research, National Institutes of Health), in the National Guidelines for Animal Welfare at the National Institutes of Health’s Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare or other applicable internationally recognized ethics guidance documents. Human subjects research includes: clinical investigations (any experiment or study on one or more persons which involves a test product/article, whether a drug, treatment, procedure or device); social-behavioral studies which entail interaction with or observation of people, especially vulnerable populations (i.e., as minors, pregnant women, inmates, drug-users, the mentally impaired, displaced/refugee populations); and, basic scientific research to study the biology of animals, persons or organs and specimens thereof. The most fundamental issues in studies involving human research subjects include: valid scientific questions and approaches; potential social value; favorable risk-benefit ratio; fair selection of study participants and an adequately administered informed consent process."
  14. Hahhaa I came on just to see if you got one too! Congrats!
  15. نعم، أتكلم العربية ,لكن قرأت أفضل but I have a very hard time reading transiliteration. :-) I had to have an AIDS test in Jordan once before and it was clean and efficient but truly a bizarre experience. Truly bizarre.
  16. Aaawww Thanks! Seriously, that's a lot of alternates! I have an evil hope that the accepted's start dropping like flies from a non-permanent, non-malicious reason. Like they all suddenly decide to get married and move to the Caymans instead of taking the grant :-). FYI: I contacted the Middle East person at IIE to see if I could find out where I am on the alternate list and she said she was prohibited by IIE from telling me. I suspect that goes for the rest of you, though I believe the Hays people can find out. Also some folks were asking about the TB tests for ETA's: I know in the case of France this is taken care of in country at no expense to you save getting to the clinic. So do check before you shell out any money on examinations. Remember most exams not preformed in a host country are not valid, that goes for America as well.
  17. http://www.ciep.fr/en/assistantetr/ They do say they want some level of French - you can completely ignore that.
  18. Sure! And you don't have to speak a lick of French to do it. Just sayin'.
  19. OMG that was the funniest shit ever
  20. Good question, kind of looks like it doesn't it?
  21. 100 duck sized horses :-)
