  1. I tried doing the meningitis thing on CUNY first but it isn't showing up the way the instructions say. I called and emailed my old school yesterday and asked them to fax it. How did you find out that they were processed?

  2. I am reading

"are prisons obsolete" by Angela Davis

"discipline and punish" by Michel Foucault

"how to see a work of art in total darkness" by Darby English

    "habeas viscus" by Alexander weheliye

I plan on watching an online course on literary theory and brushing up on some art theory texts during the summer

  3. This information is very important. I have two questions. Instate or out of state? Had you accepted Hunter or held back your acceptance?

Yes, I did accept their offer for admission.  It must be weird for people that are juggling multiple offers be cause they seem to wait really late to let you know about your funding or financial aid package.

That is such great news!! Congratulations. Is it a specific scholarship? Are you going in the Fall or Spring?

Yes, it was a scholarship from the Scholarship & welfare fund.  It's funded by Alumni.  I will be attending in the fall.

  4. Hey everyone. I know it's late but I wanted to post this because there has been a lot of talk here about Hunter not giving any $.

Yesterday I received a scholarship that is two years full ride at in state tuition rates. They also offer supplemental funding outside of financial aid.

Not about me boasting I just want to spread the word...when it comes to hunter never offering $ ... Don't believe the hype!

  5. I'm kinda late to this post so I figured I would add my website to the mix.

Please let me know what you think

My artwork is a critique of destructive economic power dynamics within urban communities. I have chosen to use a tobacco company that holds a 78% market share within the black community as a demonstrative and metaphoric example of the economic forces that profit from destruction within the community. Design elements derived from West African bocio sculptures are used to compose images of power objects as a means of empowerment and change. Advertisements for the tobacco company that are aimed at the urban communities are ritually cut and sutured as a way to illustrate the will to overturn present power dynamics and create new ones. Ubiquitous discarded cigarette boxes are incorporated as a way to invoke the presence of community members as consumers. The work also refers to neoclassical busts, previously used to link ethnographic types to power dynamics. The use of black granite and marble busts operates as a signifier for identity. Assembled, these elements operate as power objects to aid in the shedding of what Ngugi wa Thiong’o called the colonized mind.

  6. Madhini - I got that email today. My letter came today, as well. I'm on the west side of the states so that's probably why it took a bit longer.

I accepted Hunter's offer of admission tonight, so I'll be seeing everyone else next semester or in the spring!

Madhini, were you accepted for the Spring or Fall semester? It should say on the acceptance letter on the application page.

Yes I am. Guess that's why   Did everyone else receive the e-mail from them about the page they have set up of us on their website and asking us to sign up for their weekly newsletter too?

That's kind of weird. I didn't get that email. Just one more thing to freak out about.

  7. What would you do if you have a not very good school but in New York (The New York Academy) and that offers better scholarship (but not a full one), and MICA - more expensive and in Baltimore - to choose from? I have to make a decision in two days.. aaahhh!

I think if you consider a school to be not very good, it's not worth it even if it's free.
