  1. 1)What sort of area and specialty do you want to focus on in history? As for me, I am particuarlly interested by the uses of history by decision makers and the development of policy. Because one cannot declare that as a field, I intend to focus on "modern" US Foreign Policy with the actual process of developing policy as my specialty. 2) Do you have a favorite history book? Mine would be "Thinking in Time: The Uses of History for Decision-Makers" by Ernest May and Richard Neustadt, which is based on a course they co-taught for about three decades at the Kennedy School. Unfortunately, Neustadt died a few years ago, so, hopefully May can hang on for another half decade or so if I get in 3) If everything doesn't work out for some unforseen reason and you don't get into grad school this year, what will you do? I intend to apply to the State Department and a few policy institutes in Washington, New York, et cetera to build up a little more real world experience in my field. At the present, I am working as a paralegal in NYC for a year to save up for the looming money pit known as grad school.
  2. Yeah, getting tons of funding from a public university when we have Bush in the White House is an awesome accomplishment. Kudos to you, sir (or m'am)!
  3. It's awful. I have a job in the corporate world for the time being, but, due to the slow economy, I have a ton of free time to fret about admissions. *check Gmail* *wait 5 minutes* *check Gmail again* Damn. Nothing! Well, my father served as his department's admissions chair a couple of times and he says not to worry and that many schools are just starting to make their decisions. Bah.
