  1. Barley, its nice to see you back! Did you hear from UW? I will also be graduating with around 80k (undergrad plus grad). Even as a resident, UW is NOT cheap. I was pretty disappointed with my financial aid  <_<. I talked to my mom about it though and 80k might seem like a lot, but it is definitely doable since most of my loans give me up to 20 years to pay off. Is it annoying that I'm already incredibly in debt? Yes. But school is expensive and that's just how its going to be.

Paige, I need to update my signature, but I got waitlisted at UW! Boo! I've actually decided on Arizona State University. Super cheap and pretty feasible for the fiance to find a good job there (he's a chemical engineer), as he will be supporting me through school. So I'm pretty sure that's the route we're going to take. Hopefully our baby (Barley...the bulldog :P) will do okay with the heat!

  2. I'm in the same boat. I was accepted in to University of Denver's program and was ecstatic. I received a $14,000 scholarship (divided among each quarter over two years) and got the maximum amount back in aid. I am still $12,000 short for just the tuition, which is $40k. Though Denver is the closest to me (I'm from Kansas), my fiance and I decided that we just can't justify graduating in at least $80k in debt. I will most likely be attending a lesser known (out of) state school and will graduate with under $30k in debt. I read the thread about ivy vs. state schools and that was really the deciding factor for me. I just can't justify the amount of debt that I would graduate with at Denver, even though it is my dream school (and I love the city). Best of luck!

  3. Has anyone heard anything from the University of Washington?

No, not yet. If you applied to the early action deadline, then we should know either today or tomorrow (most likely tomorrow). They said that all early action applicants would know by february. Many of us have contacted them asking about it and they said at the end of the month. It's sort of aggravating to wait until the last possible day.

  4. I have also wondered...I have been a volunteer counselor/advocate for victims of sexual violence and abuse since 2009. I have also worked for a food bank. I also (for a Winter Break) volunteered for my hometown's pregnancy center. I don't really have any WORKING experience, just an adequate amount of volunteer service.

  5. I called UW this week and they said that we would be notified via e-mail. Also they told me sometime in February and could not specify whether it would early, middle, or late February. SO NERVOUS.

Yeah, I emailed them yesterday and they told me the same thing! Good thing February is the shortest month!!

  6. I checked my online status thing this weekend, so I guess I "unofficially" found out on the 27th. By unofficial I mean I am still not 100 percent sure I got in--I'll feel better about it once I get an email or letter!

Thank you! I think my last recommendation later was submitted the 4th, and it was considered complete and ready for review on the 8th! So I should be find out unofficially within the next few days! Thanks for your help! :)

  7. Hi there- I applied at DU's GSSW in December, went complete in January and am just waiting to hear back. I know this thread has been inactive for awhile but I was wondering where you all were able to find a status checker on their website? I'm not seeing one. Maybe it was removed :-) Thanks so much!

When was your application complete day wise? I'm in the same boat. Applied in December and it went complete in January. Also, Denver is an awesome place, I have no doubt that you'll love it!

  8. I have not heard from UW, but I also applied (early admission as well). I called them and they said the majority of responses should be sent out late Jan/early Feb--the first round of reviewing applications.

Thanks, citychild! I emailed them, but they never emailed back. I'm super anxious to hear back from them.  I hope it's more late January (i.e. NOW) rather than early February!
