  1. Yeah.. If I haven't heard back from Chicago so far, it's probably a no.. As I expected. My advisor went there and he had an undergrad from Berkeley and 4.0 masters from UCSB and applied to Chicago when he was 30.. They say it's possible to get into PhD programs straight from undergrad but that doesn't really happen a lot, does it?
  2. It looks like I will get full fundings at Temple University. With TAship, I'll get a tuition waiver+16.3k a year. Donno that's enough to live in Philadelphia.. Temple doesnt have PhD track so I think that's why I'll get the TAship and financial packages that PhDs will normally get. Also this 'Generally speaking, the Music Department at UCSB tries to provide all accepted students a funding offer of some sort.' UCSB is my top choice at the moment and I won't hear from them about financial aid until April.. Hmm. Funding offer. When grad schools say 'funding offer', is that close to full funding usually?.. I guess I might call the school..
  3. Hello all, How common is it for an international student to be fully funded during his masters degree? I am only technically an international student, as I'm a Canadian citizen who got an undergraduate degree in US.. Has anyone have successfully completed a masters degree without a large amount of $$$ in bank? I know that PhDs are probably fully funded, but what about masters? If I get accepted to a masters program, I will most likely to get a TA position. I'm really hoping that I will get a tuition waver+stipend. At UC schools, it appears that some TA positions would not cover non-resident tuition.. (although some would) Please share your experiences in funding through TA positions, especially at masters level. (I'm also interested in hearing about TA positions during PhD) Thanks in advance!
  4. Anyone know anything about UC Santa Barbara's department? (especially the money issue for MA or MM degree) I know that everyone here's talking about Yale, Eastman and all the others but fresh out of undergrad, I think I need more experience before applying to those schools
  5. Any music theory people?... I just got my rejection letter from IU today.... after my interview. Kinda heartbroken since I am a senior at IU for composition.. Given that I got rejected by my home school, I'm expecting rejections across the board this year. I think I'll try applying to Temple University which has deadline of March 1st.. Anyone know about Temple's funding for Master's students? If there're any people out there applied for theory programs at CUNY, Michigan, Chicago, let me know.. (I guess Chicago is technically Theory+History) So sad to be rejected by my home school.. : ( Perhaps it was a bad interview, or professors who didn't exactly like me in Freshmen+Soph years.. I'm very new to grad school admission process.. Next year, I think I should apply to terminal Masters programs instead of direct-to-phd...
