Maryland has no official visit weekend - the department will work with you to schedule it whenever works for both sides. I guess that probably means you will hear people turning down offers slowly and one at a time as opposed to a bunch the way you might hear after a group visit weekend. Just speculating though.
Maryland doesn't have an official visit weekend, but they do reimburse prospective students for a visit weekend and set up all of your meetings, etc. The director said they are thinking about having an official weekend in the future, but for now this is what they have always done.
Hi guys. I hate to be possibly bearer of bad news. I spoke with the admissions director at Maryland and I'm 90% sure all of the IR offers are out (I am IR). There is a slight chance I just got the wrong impression from our conversation though. He did say that IR in particular was especially competitive this year.
AH. I just thought of something. We spoke about funded offers, so there may be more a couple more offers going out which do not include funding/assistantships.
I'm not completely sure what you mean by unofficial decision, but when I got my acceptance phone call from Pitt it was followed by an email with an official letter attached. I think Kristin Kanthak had them written up at the time the offer was made so maybe you should just call and ask them to email it to you
I work at University of Chicago so I thought perhaps they might give me a little extra consideration... but apparently not. I'm ok with it though! It was my last choice out of all of the places I applied
Congratulations to everyone who got in but I've been trying to get OUT of this dirty, expensive, crime-ridden city!
edit - don't worry guys, you won't get murdered in hyde park at least
Hey! Did any of the other Boulder admits receive funding, or do we all wait until after the visit weekend to find out? I'm getting nervous about the visit weekend, since it seems like it will be informal interviews to see who gets what. I really don't know what to expect!
Hi! I'm a Pitt admit as well and the visit weekend is March 22. It's odd that your letter didn't mention it as mine seemed pretty formulaic and it was a whole paragraph. Perhaps your letter didn't mention it because they didn't want to fund an international visit? Haha I will definitely be there so maybe we'll see each other there!
I GOT ONE!!!! I got one of the Pitt acceptances! I can hardly believe it! For all of you waiting, it was a phone call from the graduate director followed by an email. I LOVE ALL OF YOU THANKS
I called Pitt last week to ask for information about the decision process. The program assistant said that they wouldn't have decisions until mid-February! I was surprised because I knew it was much earlier last year. So I'm not quite sure if she just told me that to stop being bothered by people like me, or if it's true... haha
