Agreed that the topic of burning a million quid is loaded. I still have to check that video out. I was only talking about the BS process that one goes through to apply for big name residencies just to get rejected. It's how it is, but its all a big rig. These places want to promote their status by accepting people from big name art affiliates. Realized it first hand. I applied to a university for a solo show in their gallery. They accepted my application and when I showed up to set up, the director was very surprised that I was so young and work so developed. Couldn't believe I didn't even have an MFA. Shit, i was only 22. He goes 'we normally don't accept such your artists early in their career, guess I should have read your resume.' Without knowing, he was looking for some connection to a bigger organization and all he got was me, some nobody in the grand scheme of the art world. Show was a success and at least I got some fancy food from some fancy restaurant. What a bunch of hacks!

This more directly pointed at their BS PROCESS for accepting applicants. Who cares about burning a million quid.

Or just create a fake resume. I did this once and the establishment called one of my references, who was me, and asked if the applicant, me, would be a good fit to the residency program given the amount of outside commitments. I, as not myself, explained the applicant would be a tremendous benefit and would be foolish not to accept him. Two days later, got a phone call to another phone line saying I was accepted. HA! Didn't pursue because the place was a dump hole filled with clueless posers

So... Take that forty bucks in cold hard cash, burn it and photograph and use that as your first slide. Title: I was going to apply to your residency but instead of giving you forty bucks for a minute of your time, I decided to spend my hard earned money in a more creative way.

Unless you have an mfa, have done 'big things' or know someone important, you are just throwing 40 bucks away!!! They are very selective on who they pick and some of the last residents were actually artists who have teaching jobs and big name schools. Best to all who apply

What is taking these other programs so long?!?! This process is as redundant as the crits the first time I was in grad school. Now I remember why I left in the first place... These people don't have their shit together!

A little note on transcripts... They don't matter in the decision. It's all about the work and essay to the deciding faculty. Yes, they need to be submitted to the University so they can verify you have a degree and are eligible to obtain a Masters. Sure, some programs require a 3.0 or something absurd. Shit, where I did my undergrad half of the classes were 'university requirements' aka GPA KILLER Everyone is caught up in their transcripts. Why not e caught up in your work or a book? Calling and calling. If they want someone in their program, they will call. It's that simple. If no one gets into a program, then it's more motivation to keep making work and actually think about what it is your trying to accomplish with creating your work. Read Read Read. See what's happening out in the art world. See how the 1%turds are only buying art from blue chip gallery. Most of us will be eating alive by these old dinosaurs still running the show. If galleries can't turn you into a commodity and make a profit, then were fucked. The nonprofit sector is basically on the edge of extinction, only surviving because a couple 1%turds keep feeding the tube once a year. Get out there and make a difference. Do it until it kills you!

Same here with Rutgers. Didn't apply to the others but 2/2 so far for acceptance. Waiting for the others. Can't wait to kick some ass!!!!
