  8. Glad someone else knows "Free"... He is great and a good friend. Because what he uses a pseudonym, not his real name, it would imply that the work is more about the IDEA then the creator himself. So yes, the second image is by Free Humanity AND WE ALL KNOW THE DEATHSTAR. AHHHHHHH HAHAHAHAHA Like Free, planting seeds of inspiration for all you lurkers who are waiting for table scraps like a little puppy. Everyone gets some, but not all at the same time!!! UNO

  10. I see many of you applied to CU Boulder. It is a great place to live for sure and their new building/facilities are SUPER. Funding is 100% with work study, teaching and technician positions. Lots of space to set up installations and show your work. They have over 40 locations you can sign out in the building, including large 20' x 20' spaces. Breakdown: MAP program/photo/video - basement Ceramics - 1st floor Sculpture - 2nd floor Printmaking/Administrative - 3rd Floor Painters - ALL THE WAY AT THE TOP. HUGE freight elevator BRAND NEW BUILDING certified green with a 75/25 fresh/recirculated oxygen system. Just like a Vegas Casino no parking... only loading zone. (though there is basically no where to park on campus) HUGE HUGE HUGE Art Section in the library. Almost every catalogue and book from every major biennial/ show. Grad students get to check books out for 6 months at a time. HUNDREDS of Bars - February is Stout Month at the Southern Sun Brewery and they introduce a new, in-house stout everyday. Best I had: Chai Stout.... so so so so tasty. Insane Football Games/Crowds Great bus system/bike path system. Free Buss Pass with ID Can we say: OUTDOOR EVERYTHING YOU COULD IMAGINE 10 Visiting Artist Lectures/Crits per Academic School Year Downfall - The program does not have those BIG SCHOOL connections to get you a gallery or a residency. I know a couple of recent grads who are teaching a class or two at a community college and struggling to figure out what to do next. This is a research school. Not a school where you have buyers and curators showing up to your open studios. LOVE LOVE LOVED creating work their and interacting with all the students and faculty. O AND YES.... Boulder claim to fame - 330 DAYS OF SUN PER YEAR!!!! This is no lie! ALWAYS SUNNY and you can see the flatirons almost anywhere in the city.
  11. Glad others can appreciate what he has to say. I find him hilarious and jaded but experienced and knowledgeable. There are a few lectures of his on the intertoob. Here is another good one: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/2398143 Also anyone else interested, check out the peter schjeldahl lecture from SVA. He is a great speaker and his reviews in the new yorker are for the most part, spot on!!! Best to everyone applying. Hope to be classmates with some of you next fall.
  12. WHOA! Put on the breaks there cowboy! Its been only three weeks and you will either get the call or not. No sense getting all worked up about something. There are hundreds and hundreds of applicants to the top programs and it takes time to build a cohesive acceptance list. They do not just pick 'the best' students and thats it. They build a group that is dynamic, unique and has the potential 'as a group' to make 'great things' happen. So, people who just babble on about themselves and what they want and what they need and blah blah blah in their intent/statement are really just hurting your application. In the essays I submitted, I only touched briefly about what it is I actually needed from each specific program. Its about building a community and adding to that community. Doing good for the school and being a representative of that school. The list goes on and on and on but in the end you may think its about 'YOU' but its not.
  13. YES! He is real! Why most people cant stand him.
  14. ITUNES School of Visual Arts Lectures - MFA Art Criticism & Writing #31 Dave Hickey The Most Informative 60 minutes about Art Everyone contributing/trolling this site should listen. Another iknowyoudontcare freebie!!!
  15. You say: 'It doesn't. Why does everything have to be about me?' Careful... its a trick question!!!
  16. Just because your transcripts were late, they didnt look at your application? Sounds Lame. Did MassArt use slide room? I wonder if all the schools check to make sure the applications are complete with the University before looking at the images and reviewing the essays. Seems bogus not to let someone into your program over a technicality.
  17. "Collectors have had an insidious effect on young artists. They move into graduate schools and offer these kids ridiculous amounts of money. The result is that even art students focus on what sells and continue to produce that kind of work, rather than experiment, which is what they ought to do." How Uptown Money Kills Downtown Art
  18. "So what happened to all the money" yous didn't axed. "Sigh, How Grand It All Once Was." "So what happened to all the money" she axed. This is the question of our times. Freebie: http://artblahg.blogspot.com (dont be scured)
