I saw some people posting on the results board about UConn, and I was just wondering if anyone knows anyone who attends this program or has heard anything about it? On the results board I saw someone describe it as the most challenging thing they've ever done, but they really love it. Someone was also saying they throw you into clinic work week 2 rather than in the second semester like some schools do (as an example of it being intensive). Just wondering if anyone else has been accepted and heard anything about UConn, or if anyone knows someone who goes there! Any info that I can't get from their website is appreciated of course

Unfortunately I feel like those of us still waiting to hear from Hunter aren't going to get good news. I guess we'll see though. It'd be nice to just hear one way or another though! -

Admittedly Seton Hall is a little on the expensive side for me.... so it's kind of gone down on the list of schools I'm anxious to hear from haha. I'm hoping that once April 1st hits a bunch of schools will start notifying! -

I haven't heard anything from them. I've gotten a couple of emails about sending them syllabi for courses and that kind of thing, but I was getting those emails while seeing acceptances showing up on the results board. So I can't tell if that means they're still working on going through applications... or that the remainder of us are waitlisted/rejected. I guess we'll in theory find out eventually! -

I feel like April 15th is going to hit and we're not going to have heard back from some of these schools haha. Seems like they're going to be late this year! -

Based on the results board from last year, Montclair's first acceptance was on April 10th. So unfortunately I don't think you'll hear back before the April 5th deadline :/ -

I'm waiting on Montclair as well. In addition to 7 other schools. I'm just getting very tired of waiting haha. For a while I assumed I'd hear from everywhere before the April 15th deadline to notify schools if you'll be attending, but I'm starting to think I might not hear from all 8 by then! The NY/NJ schools really seem to be notifying late this year. -

4-6 weeks for Kean... are you serious?! That's a little ridiculous. I just looked back and in one of the first emails they sent me it says decisions are usually sent in 3-5 weeks. 7 weeks have gone by and they're claiming another 4-6? I find that to be really frustrating since most schools require deposits down by April 15th, so apparently its likely that we don't have all of our decisions by then. I'm hoping that by some miracle some of these schools just end up sending decisions earlier haha -

I've never had any other contact with Brooklyn College, so I dont think that theory explains it for me! (although it'd make the most sense). Never applied for undergrad, visited, and definitely haven't donated. Plus, the email address hasn't been used since middle school, and I definitely wasn't giving information to colleges then haha. Slpf13, yes, I still have my interview! I'll be getting up bright and early on Friday to drive to Brooklyn haha. Crossing my fingers that it goes decently! -

That was me! So weird they sent something to an old email address of yours too. I feel like they must have been searching us in some shape or form... right? -

I PM'ed you about Hunter . But I really wouldn't worry about it. Until the official notification comes (which you said shouldn't be for another few weeks), you're not going to have to worry about accepting or declining your admission. And your Lehman decision could very well come before then! I can't imagine you'll have to decide about Hunter before hearing from Lehman, so you should be fine. Congrats!!! -

I'm really hoping that that's not true about late April! On the results board, last year everyone posted hearing back between March 30th and April 12th (excluding waitlist offers). So I'm crossing my fingers that we'll be notified before the 15th when other deposits are due. -

How did you like Brooklyn College for your undergrad/do you know much of their reputation for their speech path program? Pretty much anything that stands out to you about the program that's not available on their website I'd love to hear. -
How Much Do Rankings Matter?
slpgal123 replied to slpgal123's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Thanks everyone, this is some good input. I definitely plan on visiting the schools I'm admitted to, and that will definitely be a big part of my decision process. I guess I can just see me liking multiple programs, and wondering if as an additional factor I should consider how it's ranked. I just wonder how much people hiring are aware of the school's ranking rather than just aware of general reputations of schools (or not caring at all as long as it's accredited). Like I've heard great things about Hunter (that it's extremely competitive to get into and an excellent program), and yet it's more than double in the rankings than UConn. We'll see how many choices I even end up having, but I can see deciding being very difficult. And I'm just undecided on how much rankings should be considered in the decision process. -

Ummm... well it's very odd. This morning my email got hacked (spam sent to everyone ugh) and to change my password I had to log into this really old alternate email address that I haven't used since middle school. And in this email address.... I saw multiple emails from Brooklyn College about an interview that I apparently have this upcoming Friday. But I missed the deadline to accept the interview (since this isn't an email address I check or an email address I gave them....), so I'm going to call tomorrow. That email address got emails with usernames and passwords using my first and last name... so it was definitely meant for me I just don't understand how they got that email address. But story aside, the email originally came through 3/5 saying I needed to confirm by 3/11, and then got a second email 3/12 that was like a "last call" email. So we'll see if they'll still let me interview! I'm hoping since they didn't email the email address that I provided... that they'll let me reschedule it. -

It looks like I have an interview for CUNY Brooklyn that I just found out about, but I don't know if they actually require them. And I haven't heard anything about an interview for Hunter, so I don't know about Hunter or any of the others. -

JaneAustin and jeffmooo, this email address I haven't used since middle school, years before I got a facebook. So it's not listed on facebook, or any other social media websites (facebook's really the only one I use anyway). Plus, my facebook is private. Don't worry, I'm with you guys on the paranoia haha. It's just weird because since I haven't used this email address for a minimum of.... 8 years... literally no emails even get sent to it. So it's weird that Brooklyn College would have found it, when it hasn't even gotten overrun by random spam. Hopefully they'll agree to let me interview still despite missing their deadline when I call tomorrow. I just still don't understand why they would send it to any email address other than the one provided on my application. Very weird! -

I'm just so confused. Like you know the stupid kind of email addresses people made in middle school having nothing to do with their name? It's one of those haha. I'm definitely going to call on Monday (I've already responded to the email), I just hope it's not too late. The original email says how the interviews are not rescheduleable, and how you must respond by 3/11. And then my second one came on 3/12 basically being like "last chance because we can't hold you spot". Obviously... I'm replying 5 days later. I'm hoping they'll still either let me go to that interview or let me schedule a new one though considering they haven't been emailing the email address I provided on my application.... (aka the one I check). Very odd though! Watch it still not be a real thing... I wouldn't be surprised haha. -

Ok... something really weird just happened and I am extremely confused. I looked at my phone this morning, and I had 59 new emails and was really confused. I then see that they're 59 "mailer-daemons" from all the spam that my account sent out to the 300+ addresses in my contacts since it was hacked (UGH). So I'm attempting to change my password, and have to log into a REALLY old email address to verify the password change. In said really old email address (which I haven't logged into in ages), there's an email about a Brooklyn College Interview..... for the Speech-Language Pathology program. I hadn't responded to the previous email about the interview, and she said she needed me to email back to confirm whether or not I will be attending my interview since they can't hold my spot. The email was sent by Angela Caragliano, from a legitimate @brooklyn.cuny.edu email address, and I google searched her and she is in fact the office manager for the Speech Path Program. Do you think this is a weird coincidence, and the email wasn't actually sent to me considering it was sent to an email address I definitely did not include on my application? Or do you think they somehow got a hold of said email address? (My first and last name is attached to this email address despite it being old). I'm truly so confused about this and whether or not it was 1) legitimate and 2) meant for me haha. So weird! EDIT: Just saw another email from Brooklyn College in this email address that gives me my accurate login information for their portal that I also received to my email address that I provided on my application. So it definitely seems that they know that it's me.... (as my login username is my last name... and the email is addressed to my first name), but how in the world did they get this email address?? -

Yes, you only need one . I really think it's going to work out for you. That being said, I'd love if the NY/NJ schools would just start notifying already haha. Put everyone out of their misery! As much as there haven't been many notified from NY, there are even fewer who have been notified from NJ. Eventually they'll all start rolling in I guess. -

Aww I'm sorry to hear about the rejection right before your birthday last year . That's so disappointing! Hopefully you'll be getting better news this year. That's very interesting, I didn't realize that the NY schools are supposedly supposed to notify applicants all around the same time. In that case I guess once that starts happening the results board will be blowing up! -
Now to start this out, I want to put out there that I definitely don't think rankings mean everything, and know that the school being a good fit for you is the most important. But should they be completely ignored? I just looked up the rankings of the 10 schools I'm considering on US News (8 of which I haven't heard back from, but they're on the list anyway haha): UConn (32) Hunter (84) Brooklyn (106) Adelphi (131) Montclair (154) Seton Hall (154) Kean (204) LIU Brooklyn (204) William Paterson (229) Richard Stockton (unranked) And I can't help but think.... how much should I consider them? For example, I've already gotten into UConn, and clearly it's the by far best ranked school on my list. I know the rankings are primarily based on research the school does and what not, but would going to a school like UConn that's clearly much higher up be looked more highly upon by job prospects? Like lets say I'm choosing between UConn and William Paterson (where WP is much cheaper since I'm in state), would it be a bad decision to go with the cheaper school that's literally the last ranked school on US News' list vs. one that's #32? Any input is appreciated

I had only noticed the one rejection but just searched and saw that you're right. Maybe we can take it as a good sign to not hear anything then? I'll try to be optimistic haha. Are you surprised we haven't heard anything from LIU-Brooklyn too? Last year the first acceptance showed up on the results board on February 15th!
