  1. Thanks for the congrats! I hope that helps. I was also going to mention that I was on the verge of applying to Columbia (who accepts late applications) and NYU (whose deadline is passed but who also accepts late applications). They both offer one-year MA programs in PS that, from what I have heard, are very good. As you probably know, the problem with these programs is that they are expensive and they offer little or no funding in most cases. But I thought I would mention them anyway. Best of luck!
  2. That's exactly what I did with Duke when I was not part of the first wave of admits, and I was just admitted to the MA program a couple of hours ago. I emailed the program director and one of the admin personnel and said something along the lines of "in the case that I am not admitted to the PhD program, would it be possible for my application to be considered for the MA program in political science?". I also included a line or two explaining why I only applied to the PhD program since that was, and still is, my ultimate goal etc. He emailed me back (program director) and said that the MA was unfunded and said that he would see about getting my application to the MA admission committee if I was still interested. I said I was, and he emailed me a few days later saying my application had been sent to the MA adcom. At the time I made the request, I had been rejected by UCSD and Emory (after interviewing), and because most of the programs I applied to were generally ranked above Emory, I was worried I would not get into a top program. I got into UCLA a few days later, so my worries were a bit premature, but I don't think it hurts to develop back-up plans. I don't think it hurts at all. Hope this helps. I wish you the best of luck, and I really hope you get good news soon!
  3. Congrats to Brady on the UCLA admit! I was also a late admit and was extremely excited to get the offer. I'm hoping for a late admit to Berkeley as well but not holding my breathe!
  4. I just emailed one of the Grad Advisors at Berkeley yesterday to update some external funding info on my application, and she replied "unfortunately we are fairly well into the decision making process". So I didn't take it to mean they were completely done, but she said I would get an answer by the end of Feb. Still a little hope I suppose.
  5. I will be going on the visit to Colorado as well. See you there!
  6. I'm the recent UCLA admit (American). I had already assumed I was rejected after all the admits posted their results, and I was really bummed about interviewing at Emory only to later be rejected. Needless to say, I'm completely shocked and elated to be admitted. I'll get at least partial funding for five years. For those who haven't received the news they've wanted, don't lose faith yet. Best of luck to all and a big congrats to recent admits!
  7. Thanks for the info on Emory. I went to the visitation and I think I would be a good fit there as well, so I've been anxiously waiting to see if I get an offer. The atmosphere during the visit made it seem as if most, if not all, of the visitors would get offers. But you still can't be too sure. And I'm not feeling overly optimistic about my chances at the other schools to which I applied. I would have to think that if you haven't been rejected, then there is still hope you'll get an offer. Best of luck and thanks again!
  8. Be sure and let us know when you hear back from Emory. I went on the visit and am anxiously waiting to hear the final verdict. Thanks!
  9. I'm really glad you made this post, because when I first received the email alerting me to check my status (for the third time) there was no message other than the rejection. But now I also have the message encouraging me to apply to the IRPS program. I'm definitely going to inquire about it, and if I can just forward my existing application at no additional cost, I might as well see what they say. Thanks so much for bringing that up!
  10. Well, I have heard plenty from UCSD (I was rejected there last week). I just got my third email alerting me to check my status only to receive the same rejection message. Thanks! Also, big congrats to the recent admits! I'm hoping to hear good news from UCLA as well but not holding my breath.
  11. Not only that, but my email arrived at 3:22 a.m. when I was trying to sleep the night before heading off for a visit to a different program. So not only did they really want to get the point across (and rub salt in the wound?), but they apparently also wanted to sabotage my chances of getting in anywhere else! LoL
  12. First rejection from UCSD. Ouch. SD would have been pretty nice. Oh well, got a long way to go still!
  13. Just curious about the details of the Duke admit. I'm really hoping for that one and would love to know exactly what changed when you logged into your application. For example, my status just reads something like: "Congratulations! Your application has been submitted". TIA and a big congratulations to whoever got that one!
  14. Hey everyone! New poster here. I was just accepted at UC Boulder and I am one of the applicants invited to interview/visit at Emory this weekend. Not having majored in Poli Sci, I wasn't sure I would get into any program, so needless to say, I'm really excited to get good news from the first couple of schools (judging from the board, my other schools haven't made decisions yet). I'm anxiously waiting on Duke and UCLA as it seems they might be extending offers soon. This has definitely boosted my confidence a little. Anyway, just wanted to share that, and I'm sincerely hoping that everyone gets good news from their schools!
