  1. I have checked where ECE PhD students at Purdue go after graduation. It seems everyone can get into good companies such as Google, Microsoft, Intel, etc. I imagine same things happen at UIUC and U Mich. So I believe if you are considering industry after graduation, there won't be much difference between a Stanford degree and a degree from UMich or UIUC. Plus, you are admitted to MS at Stanford. So it's possibly even easier to get a better job in industry if you have a PhD degree from UIUC or U Mich. If you are considering to become a professor, then Stanford may be the choice. But again, it is the MS program at Stanford. How are u gonna associate it with the goal to become a professor. I think the only factor that sways your opinions is that Stanford has a better name. But I believe if you are a capable and confident person, you can impress others by your own abilities. Am I right? So based on the above thought, I turned down Stanford.
  2. I have decided to turn down Stanford. Well, not many people have the chance to turn down Stanford. Haha.
  3. I'm waiting for the EE PhD program.... This sucks..
  4. I'm just wondering what is going on, since most schools have already made their decisions. Anyone heard from Cornell about the ECE PhD program?
  5. One is a PhD program, the other is a MS program. The MS is not funded and the PhD is funded. Which one would you choose if you are me. Both school are strong in EE, but you know Stanford is Stanford.
  6. I'm a Rice undergrad majored in ECE. The ECE department of Rice is small, so you probably won't find researches opportunities in any sub areas in ECE. You may need to check if Rice's research direction matches yours. As far as I know, Rice is good at compressed sensing, nano areas and still has good reputation in general signal processing because of Sidney Burrus (go check wiki). About research facilities, as long as there are researches in that area, there should be facilities you might need. The campus placement is still very good, but not as good as the big state schools. And Rice is rich. In general, it is a small, private, elite school that is good for one to pursue his/her academic interests.
  7. I received the official letter about 2 weeks ago. I think you don't need to worry too much and you can just send an email about your condition to the ECE department graduate office to double check.
  8. I'm granted that title too. I don't know any other people who got this title. Guess it is rare.
  9. I'm admitted to these programs, and I'm thinking about which one is the best choice. I know Purdue has a great reputation and a long history in ECE, and its program is among the top 10 ECE programs. Also Purdue is very strong in the area that I'm interested in. However, as an international student, I'm concerned about Purdue's general reputation internationally. My dad's colleagues, who are working in the academia and engineering industries, think that although Purdue is known for its engineering programs, its reputation has suffered for its somewhat weak undergrad education since Purdue has been admitting high school students that are not that good. This may make a degree from Purdue looks bad, since everyone think it is very easy to get into Purdue, which is never the case for its PhD program in ECE(very low acceptance rate). The ms program from Umich , UCLA , Columbia(nikola tesla scholar), although in fact easier to get into, will actually look much better than a degree from Purdue generally due to those schools' international reputation. People think those schools are hard to get into and appreciate degrees from those schools more. I'm in such a dilemma. I would appreciate any feedback from either US or international students. What do you think about these schools? These programs? Thank you so much!
  10. As below, Hello, I'm the communications specialist at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University. The head of graduate admissions asked me to call you to see if you have any questions about our program, Purdue, or life in West Lafayette. I'd like to speak with you one morning next week, if possible. Please let me know which day and time is convenient and send me a phone number at which you can be reached. I'll look forward to speaking with you! Regards, (Ms.) Joanne Lax Is it a really good sign?
