  1. Hi ImberNoctis, I am a PhD student now at Delaware. I think your experience really depends on your interests and goals. What is your research interest? What do you want to get out from the master's? Do you want to go on for a PhD program later with it? The department is stronger in some research areas than others, and I can tell you more about it once I know more about your interests. Feel free to PM me too.
  2. Hi Aux2, I agree with people above me, you might have more chance than you think! I went to a tiny liberal arts college, and majored in psychology with a concentration in linguistics. I ended up applying in my fourth year right away for Linguistics PhD (in retrospect, if I knew how little background I have, maybe I wouldn't have, but I had no idea). My school did not have a linguistics program at all, and only hired a professor with a lingusitics phd in my second semester third year. That was when I took Syntax, fell in love with theoretical syntax, did a research project my senior year, and ended up applying to strictly theoretical programs. I decided to look into linguistics programs summer before senior year. What was I thinking... Anyways, applied to 6 places, got into 2, attending one. Only realized how little background I have when found out that in my cohort of 6 people, only two of us are coming straight from undergrad (and I got funding while the other person didn't), everyone else already had a MA degree, and I was the only person with no linguistics major at all. I did not feel that my lack of background was much hindrance, there were people stressing out and working much much more on homework assignments than me in my graduate classes. Let me know if you have any questions!
  3. They usually have a deadline until you should reply, which I think is April 15 for everywhere. I think you can just simply tell them that look, I've got another offer from another university, but I am also strongly considering your university, and so I would appreciate if you can let me know about your decision as soon as you can.

Exactly what caromd said. I also got 16.5k stipend, and same preferences for housing, please. From what I gathered so far: don't leave in apartments, leave in houses, and more on the west side of the town? Also, how convenient would it be to live, for example, in Wilmington, and just commute in with public transport?
  5. Btw, does anyone know anything about University of Delaware? Looks like a really cool program, but no one seems to post about it on the results section...
  6. Also, I heard that it might be possible to get schools bid on you, if you are worried about money. At least, my advisor said if a school really wants you, they can find ways to fund you more. You can tell them that there is this other school that offered more money, but you really liked their department, etcetc. On the other hand, I also heard that in linguistics this is for some reason more difficult to do. Since I am also just applying now, and not in graduate school yet, I am not sure how this works, and maybe others can tell more about it. BTW, congratulations for your acceptances, I really wanted to get into Cornell, and got rejected .
