  1. Hey there! Check your inbox
  2. By "institution," I'm going to guess you mean the school your going to be attending. Fortunately the UKBA website doesn't say anything about having your school sign the loan letter. It just says the letter needs to have: -your name -the date of the letter (must be dated within the last 6 months) -the financial institution's name and logo -the money (or funds) available as a loan
  3. I'm not 100% on your circumstances so this information might not pertain to you, but this is some information about the tier-4 visa. This is not professional advice, and you should go over the UKBA's *confusing* site yourself one more time before you submit your application. I'm going to assume your Canadian/American, and that you are a regular, adult student tier-4 applicant and that the school you are going to be attending is a Highly Trusted Sponsor. If this is all true than you do NOT need to send in any bank statements, or proof of funds. Canadians and Americans are considered low-risk students, so you don't need to send in as much supporting evidence as people from other countries. However, you will have to state on the application that you have these forms on you if they are requested of you. You will also need to state on your application if you have paid any funds to your school yet (which is also noted in your CAS). You also do not need to send in your transcripts. Your CAS need not be included in your application; The UKBA already has all the information in their system. Just make sure you have: -your passport photographs done according to UKBA standards (done within the last 6 months) -your previous passport and your current passport -filled out the online application -completed the self assessment form -made an appointment with Worldbridge to get your biometrics done (bring all your application materials to them) *you can also pay to get your application expedited visa via Worldbridge if you scroll to the bottom of this link, you can find information about the requirements of the loan letter if it requested of you: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immigration/studying/adult-students/evidence/money/ Here is a list of highly trusted sponsors: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/documents/employersandsponsors/pointsbasedsystem/registerofsponsorseducation Here is the self-assesment form: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/applicationforms/visas/vaf9-app81.pdf Here is the photograph requirements: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/applicationforms/flr/photoguidance0409.pdf Here is the link for worldbridge: https://www.visainfoservices.com/pages/content.aspx?tag=ContactUs_page Here is the link describing "Low-risk" applicants (meaning you do not need to send in financial stuff if you are from a country listed in the link): http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immigration/studying/adult-students/evidence/ I hope that helps!
  4. I went to the graduate Portfolio day in Chicago. I thought it was a really helpful experience because a lot of the schools I was interested in were there. In many instances I was able to talk with either faculty members or former students about the program. They were not really critical of my actual work per se, but were helpful in telling me which works they thought I should include in my final portfolio (I think this could be helpful if you work in a lot of mediums and are trying to figure out what would work best for a grad application). It is also good to go with questions for them. I saw that some people even brought their statements along with them to get a look over. So yeah, I thought it was a really good experience overall.
  5. I think Slade's program is interdisciplinary, while the RCA separates its different departments. There is also cost gap between the two schools(Slade being the cheaper option). Both have good reputations in the UK and internationally. I think the studios are shared at Slade, while you get your own studio in the painting department at the RCA (but FYI, they are TINY).
  6. I would do Hoffberger, especially if you're really into painting, and planning on continuing in that vein.
  7. YAY!!!! CONGRARTS!!!!! Where are you going to go?????? You are amazing!
  8. That is a tough, but wonderful choice you have! Have you visited both schools? Both schools have a great reputation. I think the RCA is a good program if you want to teach in the future; they give the opportunity to their students to go to different art schools and give tutorials to undergrads to help gain teaching experience. They also have great residencies that you can apply for as a part of their program (I remember hearing about on in France). I did my study abroad in London, and all my tutors at Central Saint Martins were graduates of the RCA, if that's any indication about their teaching success rates. I also think the final exhibition at the RCA is very well attended, so that might give you a chance for some great exposure. I don't know a whole lot about Glasgow other than the fact that everyone says it's a great school and they have a crazy alumni list.
  9. If I do get into SAIC, my decision will be between SAIC and Goldsmiths. Goldsmiths is half the price, but I really like SAIC's program. Such a hard decision!!!! Slade is such an amazing school! Maybe we'll bump into each other if we both end up in London
  10. My best friend got a call for SAIC MFA Painting today. But I'm not losing hope yet. I called them and they said they sent out letters a couple days ago.
  11. So I got ahold of UCLA by phone. Caron Cronin said hopefully all the decisions should be going out by the end of this week.
  12. I took a year a year off but not because I initially wanted to. I applied to grad school last year and didn't get in anywhere. My work has changed so much since graduating. I really am happy I had some time to figure some things out.
  13. I'm skyping! You? This process makes me feel so crazy!
  14. So, I just got an interview at UPenn. This seems so weird to me, because I've seen people on this forum getting acceptances for their MFA program. I guess it really isn't final until you get the official rejection...
  15. So I just logged into my Columbia application, and saw that a decision was made. The link was on the bottom. It was a rejection. but then I realized it was from my application for last year. I really need to stop confusing myself.
  16. Congratulations! The RCA is an amazing school.
  17. I'm pretty sure you need to write a dissertation as a part of your degree at the RCA. They probably just want you to bring in a writing sample to show that you will be capable of fulfilling this requirement.
  18. Just got my acceptance letter from Goldsmiths. What a relief!
  19. Apparently we have a little while to wait for SVA. Probably the end of March. I think Columbia gets back in mid-march. I don't know about Steinhardt. Nice to see a fellow Canadian on here!
  20. Does anyone know if SVA's Fine Art MFA program gives interviews? If so, has anyone heard back yet?
