  1. I'd really love to! We're looking for affordable housing in the region and considering proximity to schools and daycares and utility prices all that fun stuff... I'll let you know how it goes and keep in touch.
  2. I visited and loved both Princeton Seminary and Yale Divinity... Princeton is undoubtedly a more desirable area to live, especially with children, but Yale seems to be the stronger program and offer more long-term opportunities. Stuck...
  3. I'm sorry to hear about your wife. My stupid problems certainly don't compare to a health-scare in the family. I'll certainly keep your family in my prayers.
  4. Awesome! I'm still on the fence between PTS and Yale. Thinking I might visit both within the next couple weeks.
  5. I'm still waiting on that info too.
  6. Great info, thanks!! From what you say, New Haven seems pretty desirable. I wonder if someone who's lived in Princeton would care to give us their 2 cents... Thanks again!
  7. I'm sure you've looked into it, but cost of living in Durham (vs CT) is absolutely amazing. I hear Hauerwas is retiring this semester, and while that's definitely a bummer, there are so many world-class scholars to work with there. If Duke had offered me the funding YDS and PTS did, there'd be no question; though I'm partial to the postliberal project. Duke's an exciting place to be.
  8. This is great, thanks everyone! Just what I needed! I second indefiniteintegral's call for more info on life in New Haven! Thanks again.
  9. Bump. No takers? Has anyone lived in either place? I wanted to visit, but things at the bank aren't exactly... ahem... superb. Just wanted to know which would be best in terms of getting into a good PhD (historical theology) later on. Contra some on the forum, I'm more interested in post-reformation theology and modern re-appropriations of Protestant orthodoxy. My conundrum is that, though I believe I could get into a PTS PhD from Yale, I'm unsure that the opposite would be true. What thinkest thou?
  10. Hello everyone, I had asked this in another topic but thought I'd bump it, as we're really having a hard time deciding. So the choice comes down to Princeton Seminary and Yale Divinity. Both have offered me full funding for their M.Div. programs. My ultimate goal is teaching historical theology at university or seminary, but I haven't ruled out ministry (mainline protestant). I know both places are strong in postliberal theology, and I love it. I'm very interested in studying Barth, and I know PTS is definitely the place for that, with both McCormack and Hunsinger on staff. On the other hand, Yale has Miroslav Volf, and Kathryn Tanner... For someone who wants to go on to doctoral work, which of the two is preferable? How much does it matter that PTS is not part of Princeton University, while Yale Div is Yale U? Also, anyone have any info on raising a family in Princeton vs. New Haven (I have one toddler and another one on the way)? All opinions are appreciated and good luck to all on making their decisions!
  11. Oh boy!! First of all, congrats to everyone who's gotten good news over the past few weeks! I've just been offered a full ride to Yale (MDiv) by e-mail. This makes things interesting, as I've had the same offer from Vandy and PTS. Duke has yet to send me funding info, but I seriously doubt I'll be offered a full ride. I've turned down the offer from Vanderbilt, so that leaves YDS vs. PTS. What do you guys think? My ultimate goal is teaching historical theology at university or seminary. I know both places are strong in postliberal theology, and I love it. Again, congrats to all and to those who didn't get their first choices, don't give up! I flunked my way through high school, dropped out of my senior year and only got serious about my studies 4 years later, when I decided to take the GED and start from scratch at a community college. If I made it (and I'm not particularly bright) so will you. Best to all!
  12. Congratulations! I'm on the same boat - got the call today, but no info on funding. If you hear anything please let me know!
  13. Congrats! They just called me as well! But no info on scholarships, so I guess I wasn't awarded any?....
  14. That made my day. More hopeful now, thanks! That is probably the case.
  15. Just got a call from Vanderbilt - got into the M.Div. program with full-ride offer. Very happy
  16. I applied to YDS by the priority deadline (actually ON the deadline) and got my acceptance e-mail on Feb 4. Undergrad GPA: 3.8 Still waiting for info on fin aid.
  17. I wasn't either. Would've loved to go but couldn't manage it. I did, thanks! Good luck on ND!
  18. Same here (re: PTS). Didn't take long either. Just submitted all Fin Aid info to Yale last week, so I'm crossing my fingers for a strong package (PTS' aid is awesome). So far it looks like it'll be New Jersey for me... thought no word from Duke yet. I've been checking my e-mail every 30 minutes. :I
  19. What? Hauerwas is retiring?? Noooooooooooooo........!!! I thought I'd have at least a semester with him (assuming I got in)!! Now who will write that stellar big-name reference when it's PhD time? Sad news. Still great people there though, and certainly a solid, top-notch program.
  20. Hello everyone, I applied (Jan deadlines) for the M.Div. at Duke, PTS, Yale and Vanderbilt. Got into Princeton with full ride offer (yay) and just received an acceptance e-mail from Yale (no info on aid). The aid at PTS is pretty hard to beat, but I'm still waiting out on Duke. Best luck to all!
