  1. @ladyinwaiting23 CONGRATS! I am so excited for you! Vanderbilt is an AMAZING program, and this is literally the hardest decision I have ever had to make in my life!! I talked to 4 students there and they all LOVE it. There are seriously no negatives to it, and I know you are going to have a blast their and get an AMAZING clinical education. And thank you, I'm happy too. I know both choices were great, and I am looking forward to starting during summer term. Best of luck to everyone making decisions!
  2. I just declined at Vanderbilt so someone is going to get offered 65% of tuition there. This was truly a difficult decision for me, but I didn't feel like there was a wrong choice. I am very excited to go to UTD and start classes Summer 2014! I am also excited because I think this post will officially make me "caffeinated" which is always fun.
  3. @bmdtarheel I would go for UNC if you have 100 percent funding and a stipend. They are both excellent programs. It depends on your interests really! I was offered 65% tuition at Vandy and nothing at Chapel Hill so UNC wasn't even a viable option as an out of state student. But from what you are saying you do not want to continue working on the project that would give you the 100 percent tuition at UNC and a stipend at Vandy. They are truly both top notch. You can't make a bad decision either way! Feel free to PM me if you want more info about the programs and the general opinions I had.
  4. YES GO DAISYINC! Can't wait to meet you chickadee!!

  6. Ahhhh I was completely set on UTD and now I am having second thoughts. I haven't officially accepted or declined though I thought my mind was set on UTD. Vandy is offering me 65% tuition which is more than UTD is offering but I am not so much interested in medical SLP. I want to work in a clinic or school system with kids with autism or developmental disorders, and UTD has quite a few autism specific practicums. AHHHHH. UTD is ranked really well too for SLP, but Vandy is more regarded overall as a university. But I do not want to choose my school based on prestige alone... Anyone else having a hard time deciding?? I so wish I could talk to more current/ admitted students!
  7. PS Feel free to add me as a friend on facebook!!

  9. I tried to keep the name simple so it was easy to find, but we can change it later! Let everyone know about it. The group is set on closed so that no one can see our posts, however it isn't secret so you should be able to find it by searching. :D
  10. Guys I officially decided UTD! I am starting in the summer, and I can't wait to meet you. I visited Dallas Saturday through yesterday (Tuesday). No, its not a outdoor paradise, haha, but what can you expect from a huge city? There is SO much to do, and traffic wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I am going to be living in the Lakes in the Village. It isn't too far from White Rock Lake and the Dallas Arboretum! Toonces, I would love it if you sent the resource list you were compiling to me!! @chinkspeech so sorry to hear that. I think the GRE scores do play a larger role in admissions than anyone wants to admit, which really stinks. I have friends with a double major in Spanish and CSD as undergrads with 4.3 GPA, internship and clinical experience, and average GRE scores (300ish) and they have only received rejections! It is so frustrating, and unfair in my opinion. I took the GRE three times, and my score went up 7 points from the first to the third time I took it. I wasted a lot of time trying to learn new vocab, and I really don't think it helped. What was ultimately the most helpful was just taking practice tests. I would buy the official ETS book and take all the practice tests in that book, as well as the 2-3 offered on the computer. The best test prep company for the GRE by FAR in Manhattan Prep, but you really have to be committed to studying. They have several books (I think 8) that cover every topic on the GRE. The cool thing is, if you buy just one of them, you get an access code for six more practice tests online with explanations. I bought three of their books and used the online practice tests. The key is to review every mistake before taking another practice test. I took probably 8 practice tests in studying, and it definitely helped me!! I know several people who were accepted the second time the applied for grad school. Good luck to you!!!
  11. Yes, UTD I feel is often underrated by students who don't know how great it is! It is hard because I am really leaning towards Dallas, but an extra 20,000 to Vandy makes a big difference. I do get the feeling UTD would be more "fun" and less stressful overall, just due to the environment at the program. Vandy definitely seems more intense. Although Vandy carries more prestige nationally, and has the edge in terms of prestigious faculty. At Dallas however, I could start in the summer. They also have more specialization working with children with autism which is a huge interest of mine. I will definitely be visiting both programs to make a decision and I will let you know insights I gain from Vanderbilt. Best of luck to you! Did you receive your financial letter from Vandy yet? Hope it was good news!
  12. Are you going straight into the masters program? So excited for you!!!! I will definitely let you know! I would love to start a group!!
  13. I live in Alabama, so very close to TN. The letter is dated March 17. Are you leaning towards Vandy?
  14. A few reasons- Dr. Stillman, the program director there has really reached out to me and been extremely friendly. I grew up in Texas. UTD has a lot of flexibility with curriculum. UTD has extensive opportunities to work with children with autism. UTD seems like overall a more laid- back environment/ program. I put a LOT of pressure on myself, and this is a draw. There are plusses for Vandy though. Smaller program (a plus and a minus), more financial aid offered, actual campus that is beautiful (to name a few). I am really unsure now. Are you leaning towards Vandy?
  15. I am really anxious about making this decision now! I just got my letter from Vandy, and they are offering me 65% tuition remission. I was leaning heavily towards UTD, but it is about a $20,000 difference, and now I am not so sure. I know it's a lucky kind of problem to have, but it is still going to be very difficult for me. Prayer time!!!
  16. Has anyone received financial information from Vanderbilt in the mail yet? I am not sure when to be expecting it to arrive!
  17. University of Florida sent out acceptances today! Congrats to everyone who got acceptances! Happy for you guys!
  18. Thanks so much! Deciding between Vandy, UT Dallas, and Chapel Hill. Leaning towards UT Dallas.
  19. Yes, it was insanely hard. I was offered an assistantship at UGA. And UT Austin has a great program! It is so so hard to turn them down. I am still working up stamina to turn down U Memphis. And whatever I decide between Chapel Hill/ Vandy/ and UTD it will be extremely excruciating to turn down the other two. I wish I could go to all three at once. I never imagined I would get into my top three choices and have to decide like this... I feel the pain. I also know it is holding back people on the waitlist, so I am trying to decide ASAP. Still waiting for financial info from Vandy though.
  20. I just declined offers at UGA and UT Austin, so I hope it helps someone on the waitlist!!
  21. Slp92, no Dr. Stillman told me there were 700 applicants when I found out I was accepted. 90 get in for fall and summer combined, which they consider one term. Hope this helps!
  22. You will be notified by email or postal mail if you're accepted! I did not check a portal, and didn't see my offer of admission online until I created a NetID and logged onto Galaxy. I had to email someone at UTD to do this! If someone else found out differently, please correct me!
  23. Congrats to everyone on all the acceptances! It is so exciting to hear of the good news!
  24. Julie, your new signature is super cute!
