  1. Hey CheeAZ, Congrats on UT and TAMU! When did you hear from Houston, and what was their method of notification? Can I ask what state your from/where you did your undergrad? I, too, applied to UT ChEE (rejected) and Houston (waiting), but I am a Texas native and a friend of mine who is already in grad school told me that those who are not from the state of Texas have a better chance of being accepted to Texas schools because they try to maintain diversity. Anybody care to weigh in on the validity of that statement? Or was he just trying to make me feel better for not getting into UT? And CheeAZ, you have a line-up of your preferences yet? Thanks!
  2. It seems like you've already got it sorted, but just my two cents... UC Riverside accepted me and within two weeks I received an e-mail saying that the 2013 cohort was filling up and if I wanted a spot I needed to respond ASAP. I contacted the graduate admissions counselor, and he informed me that it was an automatic e-mail sent by the department and that I did in fact have until 4/15 to decide. So I know it's a different scenario, but sometimes just asking someone else can really shed some light on the situation! Good luck with your decision!
  3. I'm Chemical Engineering, but I found out in January that I was rejected- So I imagine if you have not heard anything yet, you very well may be on the wait list. Good luck!

    St. Louis, MO

I have been accepted to WashU's Energy, Environmental, and Chemical Engineering PhD program, so I will be in the engineering building and library most of the time- My dad grew up in St Louis, so I've visited before, but they lived in StL county, not the city. (Think Webster Groves, Kirkwood...) But that was 40 years ago, so he admits he is not much help when it comes to knowing driving distances/times as they currently exist. Are these suburb communities too far for someone who wants easy access to the school at the drop of a hat? My girlfriend and I will be there together, and I want her to be in a safe place. Also, I have 3 dogs that I will be bringing (non-negotiable). These are the main reasons I've thought I may need to venture out to the suburbs. But we'd be willing to rent an apartment near Forest Park that we could take the dogs, or one near any dog park for that matter. We'd like to keep the rent under $650/mo. What do y'all think? Thanks!

  6. Since Giles heard from NC State and Labrett heard from Michigan, I'm going to assume that, at best, I'm on a waiting list, and possibly rejected. Anyone heard yay or nay from Yale, UConn, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, or Houston??
