SLP 2013 CALIFORNIA Admissions!!
SLPtoBEweee replied to jackiet15's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I kind of said the same thing. So I am not banking on getting in, but I wasn't going to pay to take a test that I don't need. I don't want to work in the schools either. -

I halfway applied to SFSU but then when they told me I HAD to take the Basic Skills test, I was no longer interested. I am not taking ANOTHER standardized test........ Isn't the GRE enough?!?! -

I know! I'm like OK......late feb has passed! early march is like by next Friday right?!?! -
The 2 schools I have been admitted to both told me about funding pretty quickly. I think it varies by school. As far as loans, I think you would find out about those a little ways down the line. I am taking out loans right now that are basically what you get offered in grad school because I'm doing leveling and the school I'm at considers leveling students graduate students (since we are already done w/ undergrad technically). They offered them to me each semester right around when school was starting. Also, once a school lets you in, it is definitely appropriate / acceptable to ask them about funding. I think they expect it from a lot of students! Grad school is EXPENSIVE and I think they understand that most people don't want to pay full price if they don't have to!!! Good luck with everything!

Congrats!!! It's worth asking them if you turn your FAFSA in today if you can have an exception? You may lose out on some scholarships but might still be eligible for assistantships, etc. So glad to hear so much Friday good news! -

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh I want to hear from Northwestern! I keep checking every day........ no updates! So anxious to hear on this one!!! -
If you plan on needing any financial assistance, you should definitely fill it out. It is used by financial aid departments for grants, some scholarships, loans, etc. At a minimum filling out the FAFSA will get you loan offers. I think majority of students in grad school need at least SOME loans, if nothing else. Hope this helps!

Keep your head up, guys! I sent in my app to UT Dallas really early and didn't hear until after several other people (for no apparent reason that I can see), and then I got in AND got a scholarship. So, don't give up hope!!!! -

I think most schools send funding info separately. UT - Dallas actually told me about it in my original e-mail, but TU told me it would come later. I think that's pretty standard. -

You know what else is the WORST with emails... I applied to the school I went to for undergrad, and they send out a lot of random emails to alumni..... So I get emails from them and my heart stops and then it's just about some stupid event on campus or probably asking me for money! I want to unsubscribe to any emails that are not admissions related!!! -

Hey! You can't look at the list until you are registered, I don't think. Here's the link to look once you are: https://rcde.usu.edu/testing/index.cfm/public/students I live out of state as well (in Oklahoma) and there was a school nearby that had an approved testing center. It really wasn't a hassle. I also lived in California when I first started doing classes there and there were multiple proctors approved where I lived there. If there are none approved, the link kcald sent is where you can have someone get approved. I think it can be a professor, librarian, etc. - just no one you are related to or anything like that. The thing that sucks the most is that some of the approved testing centers charge (mine is $20 per exam), but it's really not that big of a hassle. Hope this helps! -

Yes - this looks like the right list. I don't know why their list would be different online on the search than in the list - maybe they haven't updated the list recently? I didn't take Aural Rehab at USU so I'm not sure. I took that one in person locally. I think I am going to take Artic & Phono disorders this summer... And maybe a couple others (ALL depending on where I go to school of course..... The only school I've been accepted to so far requires 35 hours of pre-reqs, so I have been squeezing those in all year! Then one of my other schools only requires like 18 hours. Drives me crazy!!!) Good luck everyone - I am hoping for good news tomorrow for all of us!!! -

This link lists the courses they offer for the non-degree seeking at USU: http://comd.usu.edu/htm/distance-education/online-post-bachelors-degree/online-post-bach-courses Also, yes tuckerma- applying there is super easy - it's just basically "you are in!" haha. But I guess that's because it's non-degree seeking. So far I have taken Language Development, A&P of the Speech Mechanism there, and I am taking Speech Science this semester. They do offer Aural Rehab (not just pediatric unless something has changed) and I was told by a couple schools that they had students who had taken it there and it counted. You may want to check with your programs to be sure, but their classes are pretty legit! They are pretty thorough and some are harder than others, but I feel like they are preparing me well for graduate school. They definitely helped me knock out a few courses that weren't offered locally where I'm living now! Good luck and if anyone has any specific questions about the USU stuff, feel free to ask me! Hope we all get good news next week!!! -

For those that are needing pre-reqs, Utah State does a lot of the pre-reqs online and they are about $750-$775 per course (they charge the same no matter where you live so there is no in-state/out-of-state difference. The classes are really good and the pricing is obviously quite reasonable. I have taken 3 of my pre-reqs from them and they've all been great! Also, they offer them ALL every term (so you could get a few in over the summer if you have time and need to for your upcoming graduate program!) -

I do too! I feel like they would be like "well this girl is obviously too annoying to deal with so you just lost your shot!" I also feel like they will tell me when they tell me........ bugging them probably won't make it go any faster! -
