I'm currently a fellow. I agree it's a tough program to get into but I do think there are things that make one standout more than others in terms of who gets interviewed. If you have a good undergrad GPA, a demonstrated interest in public service and some kind of financial need you are probably more likely to be considered than say, someone with an amazing academic background and no financial need. The diversity/financial need component of it should not be overlooked.
