Do you know if current ThD students will have to finish the ThD before they get rid of it or if they will be merged into the PhD program? And does this sound like it would happen in the next 5 years, 20 years? any ideas?

Dos anyone know if the merging of the PhD and ThD will actually happen?

Just declined Santa Barbara and Duke, so I hope that helps someone out there. Would you please update us if you have an offer/waitlist spot from Harvard GSAS for the PhD? That's the only thing I'm waiting on.

Very well said. I applied to both the ThD and PhD at Harvard. I was admitted to the ThD and waitlisted for the PhD. I visited last weekend and absolutely loved it. The situation with the Divinity School/GSAS is problematic, but only bureaucratically. It's an amazing program with exceptional faculty. I'm very excited to attend. The social scientists who deny or reject the study of religion are fools, simply put, becuase they choose to close their eyes to the role of religion as foundational to every thing we do, at least in this country. I'm not American and I'm not religious, by the way.

No. I'm not sure, but it didn't sound like anything has been emailed and that everything went out in the mail. Good luck! I doubt that Harvard needs to go into the waiting list at all, though.

I sent an email to my POI who informed me. I'm still waiting for the letter to come, but it shouldn't be long since they were sent on Friday.

Exactly. But as an atheist whose background, research, and proposed doctoral work is in no way theological, I'm assuming that having been admitted to a ThD means I shouldn't worry about it being too religious. I am, however concerned about how the job market would greet a ThD, even if it is from a top-tier program. But you're all right, same EXACT program.
