Yeah I probably wouldn't have gone to BU just because of their placement record, but it feels a little more personal because it's one of the few places that I really reached out to people. Everyone I contacted there was extremely nice and very willing to talk about my research interests and all that jazz.
But don't get me wrong, I am so stoked about Penn. No question it was one of my top choices.
Thanks eponine. I haven't been following the board since I got the first acceptance I was happy with so I'm out of the loop.
I'm disappointed about Boston, I had good contact with a few people up there.
Thanks alot for the clarification. My initial post wasn't intended to be sarcastic, I was genuinely curious and had never heard someone lay out what type of position recent graduates could realistically expect.
This may be a stupid question, but I hear many people refer to field-related jobs; I was wondering what exactly people mean by this? What type of political-science related jobs can students get right out of undergrad? When I asked professors about this type of employment they didn't seem to have any suggestions other than trying to get staff positions at a polisci department. I'd be really interested in hearing what people with experience in the real world suggest for this type of employment.
I got my letter in the mail early this week. It said basically the same funding information that was described in the initial email from Hirschmann (i.e. the usual Ben Franklin Fellowship). Maybe they don't want to waste the postage because they assume you'll pick Chicago.
I also got in at UFL, and waitlisted for funding.
To the new UVA admit, how were you notified?
I did not get an e-mail from anyone other than the DGI, and until I get more word from them I will be perpetually worried that they sent the acceptance to the wrong person and will soon inform me that I was not, in fact, good enough for them. The acceptance told me what the size of the stipend, but I really want to know the details regarding TA/RA duties. Penn people, mind sharing subfields/ research interests?
Another LTL/shameless free-rider deciding to join the discussion.
I got an admit to Penn two weeks ago but haven't heard anything from them since... anyone else having this experience and is anyone else here planning to attend the visit weekend? As time continues to pass without hearing from other programs, it's becoming increasingly likely that Penn will be my pick.
