  1. "The decision comes to your from the GSAS Dean’s office. I’m not authorized to give official decisions, but what I can do is tell you that admitted students for fall 2013 have been contacted and everyone else is being contacted by the admissions staff of the Dean’s Office gradually."
  2. That would be awesome, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I'll email them, I think.
  3. I was JUST considering if I should do this or not. I still have yet to hear from Columbia and Maryland, and I know Columbia sent out a slew of rejections a week or two ago, but nothing since.
  4. That sounds promising, though! Congrats!
  5. I have a question for everyone: when I was accepted to Ohio State, they told me that of their incoming cohort of 18, 9 have BAs and 9 have MAs. Do you think many schools intentionally consider MA and BA students separately like Ohio? Or do you think most schools just lump everyone together and choose the best candidates regardless? I wonder because Ohio has been my only PhD offer; the rest have been MA programs (a couple from pretty good schools) and so I wonder if my relatively bad luck has been due to the fact that I'm applying with just my BA. Thoughts?
  6. Finally heard back from NYU today. Rejected from their PhD (as expected) but admitted to their MA program. It's unfunded and I won't be accepting, but it's better than flat-out rejection, I guess. Still waiting to hear from Maryland, Columbia, and Indiana.
  7. Hey y'all, I'm new to this forum and I had a question/point of discussion. I applied to English PhD programs this year, but I'm hoping to have a major emphasis in gender studies (queer theory specifically). I originally wanted to apply to some straight WGS PhD programs (as opposed to English programs with a WGS emphasis) but my professors advised against it. Essentially, they argued that a straight-up WGS degree wasn't very marketable. I'm obviously not trying to criticize anyone or anyone's choices, but I'm curious what everyone's thoughts are on this--are these comments pretty standard to what others have heard? Also, congratulations to everyone! It looks like there's been a lot of success on this thread!
  8. I thought that was hilarious, as a queer theory student.
  9. An excerpt from her response: "There has been very little movement so far, so I am not in a position to predict how many candidates from our finalist list (which is basically a waitlist) will be admitted. Last year, there was a great deal of movement and we were able to offer admission and funding to many candidates right up until the April 15th deadline. This year, our fellowship packages are much better than in the past, which means that more applicants with initial offers may accept them in the past—we simply have no way of knowing." She did mention that they will be in touch with everyone in early April with an update if we don't hear sooner. This is pretty much the ambiguous answer I expected.
  10. I just emailed Dr. Carrie Hintz, so I'll let you know what she says whenever I hear back.
  11. Is anyone else on CUNY's wait list ("finalist for admission") here? Any news? Obviously if I haven't been contacted then I'm not in yet, but I'm trying to decide how to diplomatically ask about my spot on the wait list (especially since they didn't really refer to it as a wait list).
  12. Also, not to be creepy but do you know which hotel you'll be staying in? I'm trying to find somewhere cheap that's also within walking distance/is near a bus route. I'm very unfamiliar with Columbus's bus system so the closer the better.
  13. I received this email today as well. He said that the graduate school stopped funding visits last year but that he forgot (or wasn't told?). I'm kind of upset, because I hadn't budgeted for that, and a plane ticket from OK to OH is already pretty expensive.
  14. I'm entering with only a BA, though I'm Victorian lit myself. I was told that out of the expected cohort of 18, 9 are entering with BAs and 9 with MAs (ideally, I suppose). I don't know if this helps you at all. Best of luck!
  15. That makes sense. Or perhaps they have some weird process by which they discuss applications for certain areas of study first, send the rejections, and then move on to other areas? Who knows.
  16. But it would that they have already sent out a large bulk of their rejections from the boards. I'm so confused.
  17. He's one of my POIs actually, so I'm super excited to be working with him!
  18. Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that! I have no idea what other disability scholars they have besides Brueggemann. If you really just wanted to work with her, then maybe you should remove your name? I don't know. I'm sorry!
  19. I have also been periodically checking the website, to no avail! I am assuming rejection but why I didn't receive a rejection last week when most of them went out is puzzling. I'm going crazy over here.
  20. Thanks for the advice! Unless the MAPH is funded (which I doubt it is) there's no way I'd take it over Ohio. I received an email telling me to check my status online.
  21. I just recently received a rejection from the University of Chicago, but they recommended and accepted me to their MAPH program. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this program. Thanks for any insight/help anyone can give!
  22. I have friends from Seoul, yes! I went to a boarding school for high school and we had several students from South Korea, so that's how I know them. My closest friend is currently in the military right now, though, on his second year. I hope everything goes well for you!
