I'm leaning very strongly towards one school but I don't want to commit myself yet just in case they're not so bueno in person.

Rejected from UNC

Congratulations to the recent admits to MIT!
-
Said who, if I may ask?
-
So decisions have not been finalized??
-
Does anyone know if MIT has finalized decisions? (i.e. not sending out any more acceptances?)
-
publishing in European journals?

I agree with MCE, it's easy to forget how involved personal preferences, personality, and politics are in chemical academia -
Not really. I came from a small non-flagship state university and got admitted into top-ranking programs. What you've made of your undergrad experience matters much more than the name of the school, although the connections you make at those schools would help you a lot as well.

Thank you! I appreciate the information, thanks for letting me know. This conflicts with Stanford, Berkeley, MIT, and Washington!
-
It's nice that Berkeley has four weekends-- if I do get in, they apparently coordinate visits with Stanford so you can visit both on the same weekend. Does anyone have MIT, Caltech, and Carolina visitation dates?
-
I sent my application on the 15th, and was sent for review shortly after I submitted it (~16th.) Recommendations were submitted on or before the 15th as well. @Lina, I don't know yet! I'm trying to wait until not-Harvard sends out decisions so I can schedule accordingly. Washington and Stanford already conflict for me so I don't want to muddle things up further...

Just received an e-mail from UT Austin. Visitation days are February 21-22 or March 21-22. Good luck guys.

I second the business casual attire. Golden rule of blurry dress code: dress appropriately so people will think not of what you're wearing but of what you have to say. So going overboard with a suit or blazer is possible, and your holey labshirt will detract from you as well. On a sidenote, I'm under 21-- will I be missing out on a significant portion of visit activities?
-
I spoke with their admissions office and they said they will be reviewing applications until March. Don't sweat it guys!
-
Thank you for the insight Eigen, this is really useful.
-
I received visitation information from the first admit letter they sent me. If you don't get an e-mail back I can send you a copy of the itinerary they sent me.
-
Some would say this week is pretty much the last week to hear of acceptances. Good luck everybody!
-
IT CHANGED TO BLUE btw thanks YaBoyAR @mitchemistry #whyareyoudoingthistous

Anyone else getting this notice on the MIT website? WHAT MESSAGES?
-
As MCE said, thank you for this information, it is quite a relief.
-
I received an e-mail reply from a department admin on Friday last week that the Dept is still reviewing applications.
-
I'm an inorganic/solid state chemist, electrocatalysis and interfaces in particular. Got accepted into Washington.
-
Interesting read, thank you. Looking forward to the continuation tomorrow.

Thank you for your post, I have very similar stats to you, but can't attest that my letters were as good. You've reassured me, and I'm crossing my fingers and neurotically checking my e-mail/phone! May I ask what division your interest was in?

Gotcha! I'll keep you posted if I get anything from UNC, Berkeley, Stanford, Harvard or Caltech.
