I wouldn't encourage you not to apply but I would suggest gaining more experience since it's way more competitive now and also you can see whether or not you really want to pursue a MSW afterall and also which population/concentration that matches you. I was advised not to apply for a masters until gaining more experience and not to rush into it but I wanted to try anyway. Plus the application process can be soooooooo stressful. I applied for Fall 2012 and was denied. I applied again for Fall 2013 and got into 2 schools so far. My GPA is pretty low (3.0 in the last 90 units) & I have a little over 3 years of experience in child welfare with a BA in Sociology w/ a Social Work Option.

I agree that this field can be physically, mentally, and emotionally draining - so that's why it’s important to have a balance between work and your personal life. It might be a good idea to work for a few years in the field to see what population you're a good match with and determine if you really want to pursue a MSW. Were your friends and relatives social workers? And were there other reasons besides being burnt out? Also, SW don't get paid a lot either...

I believe it's only for people who applied for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) so it probably doesn't apply to international students.

I got the letter too, maybe they're reviewing IFG concentrations last...?

I did apply for the stipend. I've heard really great things as well - I was informed by many people that the SFSU program was one of the best programs. Students had a well-rounded experience with excellent professors. Students also had the opportunity to intern at Alameda County CPS along with interns from SJSU. SFSU program offered a excellent curriculum compared to SJSU. Also, students received extensive trainings that the other schools did not offer.

Yeah, it is pretty uncomfortable to have to face them, but I'm sure they have to deal with this every year when people have other options. I wish I didn't respond so fast, but I honestly lost all hope in other schools and I didn't want to lose my spot. To all other people waiting, don't give up!!!

A group of people also agreed with you that I should totally go to SFSU instead...! I already confirmed my intent to enroll with SJSU... but I guess I'll have to let them know that I might change my mind. Thanks for your input!
