  1. abe14, I am in the same boat. I contacted the graduate coordinator and she told me that 12 offers have been made, and that the expected cohort size is 6-10 students. Depending on how many people decline the extended offers, those of us in pending status (ie, limbo) will be re-considered. Personally, I am treating this as a no and moving on.
  2. Received my anticipated rejection from RAND to go with the Johns Hopkins Health Policy rejection. Definitely not feeling the love. No news from UNC public policy and U Minnesota Health Policy (am pretty sure offers have been sent out from both programs, so no news is not good news). Other programs typically respond in March, so it looks like i will twist in the wind for at least another few weeks. Anyone hearing good news?
  3. Re: University of Minnesota, I contacted PhD coordinator, and she said that adcom committee meets again in 2 weeks, so presumably news will follow (if people hear earlier, please post). She also said that no decision/notification at this point is not necessairly bad news, but I have my doubts (am assuming offers have already been made, based on past history of results).
  4. Has anyone applied/heard from Minnesota's HP/HSR program?
  5. Anybody hear any news, good, bad or otherwise? I don't see much on the results boards, other than Duke interviews couple of weeks back and a UT acceptance . I wish I could fast forward the next few weeks....
  6. My UNC app is still showing as Submitted as well. I was told to expect to hear re: a decision in February, but that seems like months away. Waiting is not fun...
  7. Glad to hear there are other folks going through same anxiety. My interests are in health and social policy and I have applied to mix of policy/pa programs (RAND, UNC, Brandeis, American, FSU) and public health programs in policy (U. Minn, Johns Hopkins). I have no clue how things will shake out as I am a definite outlier in terms of age (old!) though most of the programs I contacted were fairly receptive to my candidacy. I guess I will find out in the coming weeks! Good luck to all. I look forward to seeing how others are faring on this site.
  8. Hello, I am looking for feedback on PhD programs in public policy/urban planning that are not adverse to accepting older students. I completed my Master’s in public policy twenty years ago, and am at a point in my life where I can focus on things I enjoy (reading, writing, research). I understand the reluctance of programs to take on older students and have no illusions that Universities will be knocking down my door with offers at the end of road, but this something I want to do. I am in my mid 40s, have worked most of my career with health care data (first as an analyst, and more recently managing database systems), and spent the last 18 months in South Africa, mostly volunteering at a couple of schools to maintain their computer labs and teach basic computer skills to Zulu kids. I took the GREs not that long ago and scored 168 verbal, 155 quant. My sense is that I will have to get my quant scores up to be competitive based on conversations with a couple of different programs. I am signed up to take online courses in Penn State’s Applied Statistics program this Summer refresh my quantitative training and get back into an academic frame of mind. Any general advice/recommendations appreciated, ditto for info on specific programs. Thanks.
