  1. Will anyone be attending the APA Toronto conference? I am looking for a roommate to split hotel room costs. Please PM me.
  2. What's the difference between a Liscensed Psychologist and a Clinical Psychologist? I'm in a school psych master's program now and I am debating about applying to the school psych Ph.D. program. We would be eligible to become Liscensed Psychologists upon passing the test through the Dept. of Public Health. Also, how common is it for school psychologists to go into private practice & do things other than psycho-educational assessments (e.g., therapy for example or interventions)? I am really thinking that this is what I ultimately want to do, at least part-time (and work in a school system for the other half of the time). It seems that one would have more flexibility (setting and jobwise) with pursuing a school psych Ph.D. compared to a clinical psych Ph.D. but I could be wrong? If anyone could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  3. I'm doing a class project on anxiety. Does anyone know of good anxiety prevention programs to use in the school systems? Something other than Coping Cat or Exposure and Response Prevention. Thanks! I'm studying school psychology.
  4. I'm going to be a graduate student at UConn this fall. I need help finding a CLEAN and NICE place to live. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  5. I'm starting my master's at UConn this fall. I am actively seeking a graduate assistantship. I have a lead for a fellowship but have no definite answer. Do any UConn people have leads for available GA's? I'll work wherever; UConn Health Center or Storrs Campus. As a master's student, what are some scholarships that I could to apply to? Really want a GA though!
  6. Does anyone have ideas for paid summer employment? I'm starting a master's program in school psych this fall. I can't really take summer classes (next summer) to get ahead (due to when classes are offered and what my graduate assistantship will cover, tuition-wise). I wanted to know if anyone had ideas in terms of a paid summer research assistantship, teaching, etc. I'm in the CT/NYC area. Thanks!
  7. Will there be a new MacBook Pro coming out prior to the end of this year? Also, when is Lion coming out? I just don't want to shell out the money on a new computer unless it's the latest model, platform, etc. Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  8. I'm considering a MacBook Pro for grad school. Does anyone have advice on specifics such as the 2.3 Ghz verses the 2.7 Ghz? I am definitely getting the 13". Also, what about the memory and hard drive size? I am going to use this for my papers, presentations, etc. I want to store some of my music on it (not all). Also, can anyone recommend a good external hard drive that I could store all of my music files on? Thanks.
  9. Thanks! Haha, that's what I meant.
  10. Does anyone recommend buying an e-book for graduate school? Can you download articles from EBSCO Host, etc. onto an e-book? Thanks.
  11. I'm starting my graduate studies at UCONN this fall. I am looking at a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment in Manchester near the Buckland Hills area. If interested, please PM me! Looking for a female roommate who is neat, clean, organized, etc. Thanks!

Who can recommend some good apartment complexes in the Manchester/Vernon area? I'm going to be starting my graduate studies at UCONN this fall. Thanks!
  13. I have an interview with Tufts and one other school. Waiting to hear back from my third school. If anyone else applied to Tufts and heard back, please PM me. Thanks!
  14. I wouldn't worry about Fairfield. Their application deadline was February 1st; I am sure that they are still reviewing apps. That was one of the schools which I applied to.
  15. Could someone kindly critique my SOP? I'll critique yours! This is about my 3rd draft. Please respond to this post or PM me. Thank you!
  16. I need someone to proofread and critique my CV; I'll proofread yours. PM me if you are interested. Thanks!
  17. Yeah, I don't think they have one either. Thanks for responding. How are you liking your Ph.D. school psych program?
  18. Is it best to title the SOP "Statement of Purpose" or is it best to come up with a creative title? Thoughts please. Thanks. -Nilani
  19. I took the GRE yesterday and did not designate any universities to receive my scores. I'll be taking the test one more time and will list universities to report my scores to. Will the schools receive my scores from taking it both times? How long does it take schools to receive the official scores? I was satisfied with my math score; it matched my Kaplan CAT exams. However, my verbal score was 110 points lower! I saw a lot of vocabulary not covered in any of the Kaplan materials and I had been studying A LOT of vocab. I did pretty well on PowerPrep Test 1 verbal section. I don't know what happened to me on the actual test day regarding the verbal section!
  20. Does Vanderbilt University have a school psych program? A friend of mine stated that they did. However, I cannot find any information on it. If someone could clarify this, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!
  21. What state are you in? I'm on the east coast as well.
  22. Thanks so much for clarifying the APA accreditation; it was really helpful. If you have the time to answer them, here are several more questions: *Can Ph.D. school psychologists offer counseling and therapy services through private practice? Or, can they only offer assessment services through private practice? *Can a Ph.D. school psychologist become a certified child psychologist? (After reading the "Notes from the School Psychologist" blog, I believe this is possible...I just do not know how). *What's the difference between the PsyD and Ph.D. tracks? Within the school psychology community, are there qualms regarding the PsyD? *This is a practical question. How much does the Ph.D. raise your pay (in terms of working in school system and private practice, if you know)? Thanks!
  23. Thank you. That looks like a great website.
  24. Hey psych_hopeful. That's what I thought. However, my top school choice informed me that one can do private practice work with a specialist degree; this would include assessment work and long-term and short-term therapy (I am from Connecticut). However, I called up the CT state public health department and they told me different. I don't know who is right.
  25. Hey there. As a Ph.D. licensed school psychologist, do you need additional certification(s) for private practice work? For example, does the Ph.D. allow a person to administer therapy interventions to kids (in addition to all of the assessment-type work)? Just wondering if you knew. To Repatriate--thanks for the APA website. It was really helpful.
